  1. Damn... it's been WAY too long since I posted around here, and I'm not even sure if I'll be as active as I used to in the future, so I'll just lay down what's been going on in recent times.

    1: The Game.

Progress of the game has seen a MAJOR uplift over the past year or so. The story's been changed around quite significantly. I have a basic outline of almost all the events I want to have in the game, and I'm set to rewriting the dialogue and synopsis from scratch once again, along with a few friends of mine helping me with co-writing the whole thing. During that time, I've also assembled an entire team of artists, programmers, and musicians, including myself, for us to make this game happen, thanks to my ever growing connections with people throughout the years. With the story mostly finalized, and a full team assembled, if I play my cards right, we may have an actual demo for X-Tra Dimension available around 2019 or so...

    2: My career paths...

After heavily improving my composition skills over the course of a year and a half, I'm more or less wanting to take music as my career path in life, outside of the game. I've recently been starting to take commissions for original compositions for several people, such as Sr. Pelo and FTCR, among others. I feel that with the success I've been having with the music I make, I feel it'd be wise to take a career path towards that, as it's something I REALLY enjoy doing.

That's basically all I've really got to share. Sorry about the lack of posts for a good year or so. So many things have changed for me since late-2017, so I hope you all understand. :)

I am proud you are pushing your musical talent towards a profitable level. You planning on buying the Komplete Ultimate suite? If you wait for sells at Guitar Center you can actually get it and their keyboard 40% off.

Thanks, man. I was thinking about it, but I had some other things to get, like SD2SNES, so I can playback some of the stuff I've been making for the soundtrack on the real system.

  2. Jeez, it's been a while since I've been around here...

It has, actually. How've ya been in the meanwhile?

  3. Been thinking about talking about opening up help to make an animated prologue for X-Tra Dimension, but I'm not sure where to start up a new thread for it...

Plus, I'm not sure if anyone here's an animator or not...

  4. @TheRedStranger A lot of it is Nickelodeon related from the early-mid 2000s, so IDK what to say...
  5. Hey everyone. Sorry I've been away for the last month or so. Lots of major changes have been going on for X-Tra Dimension lately. First of all, the game's gonna be switching engines from GameMaker to Clickteam Fusion, since a programmer I'm friends with atm is good with it. Secondly, the soundtrack. Not only did I find a programmer to help me, but multiple composers to help me out with things as well. Other than that, been busy with character art (still looking for help on that btw), and I'm thinking of making some alterations to the synopsis I posted here...

@TheRedStranger Of course, I'm best with character art, and not everything else, so assistance in the art department would be nice...

I would recommend start sketching landscapes and some stuff from real life at least every other day then to start balancing things out. The more stuff you internalize and practice drawing in real life, the more you have as reference to stylize. We actually of a thread the the Artist Atlier to post practice sketches if you would like. Alternate days - draw something from life and draw something just purely out of imaginative fun. Eventually you will start to get more artistic awareness and ability to synthesize real subjects in the style relevant to your work.

  6. Finally got my first set of talksprites done, thanks to a guy I know from Starmen.net.
  7. New track. Not sure if I'll include this in the demo or not. https://www.dropbox.com/s/5j7e2rds3pve1ne/X-Tra Dimension - Short Battle.mp3?dl=0 If anyone's familiar with a fangame called "Mario Forever", you might recognize some samples I used here... (I say that as I'm in a Sonic forum :P)
  8. Aaaand Miki's expressions are finally done. For now, at least. Tried my very best to make her as adorable as I can with each one. No wonder it took me a month to finish...
  9. Thanks for that extra thing for coding. I'm not entirely sure if it applies to the GameMaker language, but I'll give it a shot if anything needs tweaking. As for the RP thing, I dunno, it just didn't really seem like my thing after thinking about it for a while...
  10. @SallyAcornLover The 90s Nick thing is related to Nickelodeon, and it's bumpers are those little commercials self promoting the channel in a variety of ways. I just happen to be an expert on those, even going as far as creating a bit of my own about a year ago... If you wanna know more about X-Tra Dimension, the biggest topic's right here:
  11. Figured I'd update this topic a little bit with a few pieces of concept art I've been drawing in the last few months. Some of these are still incomplete, btw.
  12. So, since I've been given the suggestion before, yet nobody's really made a topic here, as well as all the positive reception I've been getting of some of the tracks I've posted, I guess I'll be the first. This'll mainly be the place where I get to share anything for the soundtrack for the game (W.I.P stuff, test tracks, completed songs, etc.), as well as any other original works if I'm feeling up to it. This'll also be the place if anyone wants to share any songs they wanna do for the game as well, if they're up for that, of course. I'm looking forward to what we'll see here in the future. -jcbluejr01

Well, for the demo of the game at least, a few battle themes, themes for Bosko and Phineas, the first area theme (Snowman's Town), and the boss theme for Mayor Snowman. After that, who knows...

I also have to work on the sound effects of the game...

(geez, thought I responded to this one.)

I like the sort of slow and almost somber pace the theme has, seems fitting with how you described Miki's backstory.

  13. @SallyAcornLover Welcome to the Scribes! I'm jcbluejr01, former 90s Nick bumper expert, aspiring artist and musician, long-time Sonic-fan and the creator/main developer of an indie game I'm making called "X-Tra Dimension". Nice to meet you and welcome to the Scribes!
  14. Got another song done. This time, it's the title screen.

You're very welcome. :) I really enjoy that song and it would be really cool to hear more of your stuff. :>+<:

  15. So, it's been a good while since I did anything here. Here's a music track I finished today that I might maybe use in X-Tra Dimension...

      Thanks, dude. :D

One question, where should I put any concept art for the game?

    3. F07E

      F07E

I'd assume under the same post for the game.

    4. TheRedStranger

      TheRedStranger

It can be done three ways -

      1) In The Game Factory in a thread.

      2) A personal thread in the Non-sonic art art section dedicated to your works.

      3) Both together via redirect links in each respective thread.

  16. No, unfortunately. Things have been kinda slow for me, TBH...
  17. Alright then. I guess on the weekend, or whenever I feel like I have the time (time has been getting a little tight on stuff like this...), I'll make sure I can participate in Mike's new RP, and see if it's my thing...
  18. As a follower of a YouTuber named SomecallmeJohnny for years now, and seeing him stream SHC 3 times already, as well as the entries for this year in particular, I can safely say I'm am well hyped for this year. Especially knowing that I'm gonna be doing LOTS of memes for Johnny this year, assuming if my already busy schedule makes up for it...
  19. If you say so. I've been wondering about the RP scene for a while now, and while it may not be my kind of thing (I'm not a very descriptive person, mind you), from what I'm hearing, it sounds like it can really help in this sort of situation. I'll see what I can do with this "Fate" thing whenever I get any chance, like a weekend or something, or whenever I feel most comfortable or ready to do this...
  20. TBH, I'm not really into the whole D&D thing... I'm not exactly the kind of guy to go way too deep into what he's playing. Sure, there can be a lot of tips of inspiration from that, but to me, in order to do that, I kinda have to go knee-deep into what I'm playing. And in the case of D&D, that can take MONTHS for me...
  21. Sorry I haven't been here in a while. School's been just the worst for me, and development for X-Tra Dimension has been pretty slow, mainly due to the lack of interest around the project...

It's okay, I know how school is. I think the best thing to do for X-Tra is start to get more ideas out there. Why don't you start writing down the story for it?

    3. jcbluejr01

      jcbluejr01

I've been doing that for months now. I just haven't gotten the time to look back and check to re-write anything because of all this...

Hey don't get too discouraged, it's just a process that takes time and patience. Your still in a sort of early pre-production phase, and most people remain nervous and skeptical until much later on, doubly so for new or first time developers. It'll pass the further along you get.
