[Adjective] [Noun] Zone - Creative Exercise (Game Design).

Sometimes, it can feel like Sonic Zones, especially modern ones, can feel randomly named. Like Sonic Team threw a bunch of nouns and colours into a hat and picked some out at complete random. But then me and @TheRedStrangerdecided that would make a fun writing exercise for the site. And so! Here be the Rules to [Colour] [Noun] Zone.

Step 1: Get ten randomly generated colours and ten randomly generated nouns (or just use one random colour).

Step 2: Put those nouns and colours together to make the most reasonable-sounding Zones you can.

Step 3: Give each one a little backstory.

It's actually a touch harder than it sounds, but it gets the brain juices pumping. Here are my ten;

Ivory Scene Zone: A beautiful beach off the coast of Green Hill, with ivory sands as far as the eye can see, a perfect start to any adventure.
Curry Category Zone: Within the Sonic's World version of India, dash frantically between busy streets and avoid the heat from the spices - and Eggman's robotic army!
Silver King Zone: Rush through the castles of shining royalty to repel the invading force of Eggman's robots and protect the leaders of the country.
Luminous Description Zone: It's dark, but for the flickering lights of the wildlife within this cave. Utilise their organic light to find your way out of this labyrinth.
Cyan Fishing Zone: A remote part of the Emerald Coast, rife with fish and beautiful sea for miles around.
Dark Sympathy Zone: Trapped in your own mind, navigate this twisted parody of your surroundings and escape this maddening illusion!
Orange Advice Zone: A beautiful sunset in the city, but your friend is missing on his date! Did Eggman get to him? You better find him, and fast!
Signal Red Series Zone: A techno-futuristic theme park filled with all sorts of speed-fueled attractions. Ride barrier-breaking rides and face perilous multi-story drops!
Ruby Response Zone: The city is under attack by the Black Arms! As the skies turn red above you, team up with local law enforcement to save the people from this invasion!

Brown Bread Zone: ...You played I am Bread and it broke you, huh. Like, you're hallucinating platforming around on giant loafs of bread. Why?

As you can see, I didn't get a fantastic selection, and I somehow read my own rules wrong, but I'm sure YOU will have a better go at it!

For some weird reason "Rainbow Goat Zone" came to mind first :P Maybe Robotnik roboticized rainbow goats & now they are terrorizing the countryside?

Emerald Tavern Brawl - sounds like fun, but probably inappropriate for a Sonic game. Who knows, maybe there -is- a tavern somewhere along the Emerald Coast :D

Ruby Rush Canyon - Time for a revamped Special Zone?

Neon Green Valley - sounds painful to the eyes >.<

Yellow Snow Zone - sounds like a place to avoid :P

Blue Sky Zone - Tails in a plane required!

Mustard Melody Mania - a picnic-themed area perhaps?

So for clarification, I used this as the basis for my color choices. Next go around I'll find a color generator. That and any other things that could be counted as colors, enjoy!

Diamond Income Zone: Eggman's personal Mine where he digs up diamonds to sell. Shut down his operations, but watch out for the drills and explosives!

Ferrari Driver Zone: A Race Track taken over for some experimental, high speed machines. What sort of new, fast challengers could Sonic face?

Iron Engineering Zone: The Doctor's latest smelting factory, a death trap in of itself. You're getting close to the big round guy, smash up his place and take out his Giants!

Bubble Gum Area Zone: A candy factory overrun with gooey ABC gum. As gross as it is, jump to avoid this sticky mess. Don't let it slow you down!

Azure Memory Zone: The Cobalt Ruins of an ancient underwater city. Discover its secrets before Eggman can get ahold of them.

Emerald Charity Zone: A botanic covered metropolis that occasionally helps others in need. But a certain Weasel has stolen the recent fundraiser. Chase after this Hooligan!

Cyber Percentage Zone: A shining, yellow digital cyberspace. How has Eggman paid for all these materials? Through STONKS of course! Crash his server to cease his assets.

Umber Moment Zone: This strange forest is housed in another dimension. Eggman's hiding somewhere, taking control of its inhabitants. Free these creatures and stop his plans.

Floral Nature Zone: A Plain full of Purple Flora, both beautiful and dangerous. Find out what Eggman's up to, but don't get eaten by the carnivorous flowers.

Chromatic Resolution Zone: This other dimension shifts and warps around the Chaos Emeralds. As this world falls apart under Eggman's scheme, use the Emeralds to save this world and yours!

*looks*

Okay, that's inspired these...

Sangria Samba Sector: It's a crossover with Samba de Amigo, complete with maraca-shaking monkeys!

Coffee Chaos Coniption: Sonic needs coffee badly! Guide him past robots that fling sugar cubes and don't let him get creamed on his way to the coffee pot! Horrors! The coffeepot is empty! Fight Nack the Weasel & take back all the cofffee he has stolen!

Amythest Cereal Bowl Anarchy: Now that Sonic has coffee, he needs to assemble the rest of his breakfast! Avoid hostile pastries and challenge a roboticized rainbow toucan for control of the cereal bowl!

1. Egg Powder Zone - The whole level is inside the giant pantry of Eggman's secret survivalist bunker, it is filled with powdered dry foods. Be careful if you accidentally rip open the bags! Each can have weird effects on your character! If you dive in too much of the egg powder, for example, Sonic and friends will get major gas and fly randomly around in different directions. You can use this to your advantage to get to different places, and secret areas, like the Special Zone (which is a bathroom with a green chaos emerald...inside of a toilet).

2. Plastic Pest Zone - Beware the plastic clones of yourself and your friends! You have to navigate through an obnoxious fan's souless-eyed Funko Pop collection! Wobble atop bobble heads, ride through micromachines, and dodge the crazy Omega-Collector's modified Robotocizor, or you will be turned into one of those plastic bubble-gum colored zombies too!

3. Sky Plate Zone - Rotate and spin about until you are dizzy in this 2.5 D mad house in the sky! The Sky Plate is a series of portly Black Arm UFO's revived by Eggman from the deep dark depths of Uranus! Skip passed their hungry tentacles and elaborate techo-utensiles to make to the Death Egg!

4. Blade Skirt Zone -  Remember the Sonic Three Balls ring tube mini-game? This special zone is that, except saw blades are shooting at you from all directions, slicing through the map, and trying to cut your adventure in half!

5. Smile Edge Zone -  They want Sonic's soul! Oh boy, those crazy grinning ghosts are at again! You have to sidle as fast as you can, and crawl and climb passed deadly wall edges on a cliff-side haunted castle! Be careful though, some of your fuzzy friends is possessed by the ghosts! Find the secret relic to exorcise the ghost from you buddies, or become a ghost yourself!

6. Book Head Zone - An ancient tomb filled with books from a old emperor, who was obsessed with tomes about dark magic! As Knuckles you must snatch this old enemy's of your people's hidden and trap-protected secret spell-books. Before his floating Olmec head golem can bring him back from the grace to destroy Angel Island! Beware the floating heads will try to eat ring scattered rings and swallow up any books you have to protect them!

7. Spy Industry Zone  - This one is pretty easy! You play Rouge the Bat collecting parts for new gadgets to be a better jewel-thief, by going through a G.U.N factory and knicking vital supplies while no one is watching. Sneak passed cameras, guards, and locked and blocked off areas to get what your after!

8. Bridge Hand Zone - Crazy Hand from Smashbros is back! And he wants revenge, Sonic! Save your friends from the grip of the Crazy hand and his mindless shadow-clones. Time is limited before the Crazy hand squeezes the life out of Sonic's friends! Be careful, because the very platforms you jump on are the enemy's themselves! Use their moves against them and against their boss themselves!

9. Range Sea Zone - Time to ride the bullet, literally! Sonic is not a big fan of water! And the sea is as deep and watery as water gets! Avoid sinking into the deadly depths by hopping across salvos of various battle ships, torpedoing submarines, and bombing jets all in a giant conflict. Be careful though! Sometimes those guns are already loaded!

10. Birthday Basket Zone - Ah-oh! Knuckles forgot it's Rouge's birthday, and its rush hour in Station Square, and it's a busy shopping day. If you come empty handed, Rouge will be so upset! Time is ticking, the hourglass is running out! And to make things worse, he does not know what she wants! Glide through the chaos of Station Square with your space-limited basket of birthday gifts, while trying to get clues on just what Rouge would want the most, from NPC's that know her best. Be careful! If you get hit by crazy Karen shoppers or get flattened by a speeding bus, the gifts will scatter and you will have to scramble or fight to get them back before time runs out!

Love how yours imply game mechanics and story as key factor, even in the goofy ones that would never be green lit by stuffy SoJ like Egg Powder Zone. XD

The one with your friends being possessed is great because it turns the mechanics of Sonic in their head. Rushing through enemies here could mean you hit a good friend (or Amy XP) and lot of jumping over, sliding under, or using a doge mechanic like Super Smash bros aerial doge would be awesome to see. That you could employ stealth mechanics and twitch reflexes that make homing attack sequences actually challenging.

@Wulfsbane Take a shot.
