Hello everybody! So we here at Free Scribes have a brand new series of Forum Topics, you can thank The Red Stranger for that (with some help from yours truly XP)

Welcome to What Could Have Been Different, think of this as a flip side of WWYDD, where we ask what would have been different if certain things went a another way, think of this as a What If Topic of sorts. We each ask a question proposing an alternate possibility and then we each answer how we think it would have played out, then after that we ask another question and go on from there. So sit back and enjoy as we see what happens when the characters and worlds we know take a different turn, and try to answer what the end results would be.

So for the first question, What if Shadow stayed dead after Sonic Adventure 2?

best case scenario: sonic heroes has less characters to juggle, shadow the hedgehog never happens, and sonic 06 doesnt have to shoehorn shadows plot for the sake of edge and focuses on better writing.

(i'll wait a week or so before I ask my own question, got a few ideas of my own honestly and wanna see what other people think of them.)

1: Besides Rosie, who would you have there training Sonic and his friends at age 5 to get ready to defend their home, even eventually invade Robottroplis and how?

2: Would you include a human/overland remnant somewhere on Mobius during Robotnik's rule, and if so, what role would you have them play?

If no one answers these questions within a week, I'll give my own answers then.

well thanks to a misshap with the internet, my old post was deleted. so thusly I will have to post a new one with half the charm:

    1. Cat, the often times ignored and otherwise forgotten somwhat older/elderly redshirt from the first episode. its never really stated who he was; a former servent to the crown, some old guy they just decided to bring with them, etc. I personally feel that he was probably the first person to ever make scavenging runs for knothole (farming and basic first aid only goes so far) and more than likely was probably the one who brought tails back to knothole (and perhaps how he found him is why he was adamant on pulling a heroic sacrifice).

    2. I'd treat humans the same way as the ancient babylonians from riders and the dragons from avalice (as I hated the whole 'mobius is planet of the apes' shtick) in that they originated as ancient travellers whom came from the stars, slightly altered mobian history, and were practically non-existent by the time of the coup. though I would have a large group of them in cryo stasis on a space station not too dissimilar to the space colony arc from SA2 orbiting the planet/the same sun.

  3. I think I mentioned this before somewhere, but the whole classic and modern sonic/ two separate continuities idea is something that I've been firmly for for a long time. Though my interpretation may not be quite the same as what most other people's are, as well as the direction sega is most likely taking the idea.

For me classic has always been everything prior to adventure, the advance series, and finally the rush series which kinda worked as a proper send off for the classic continuity.

Meanwhile modern has been mostly everything from adventure onwards, including the good, the bad, and the strange.

I like it as it simplifies a lot of the complexity and inconsistencies between some of the games, however Ultimately I think that the way Sega's handling it is on the same levels as "new coke vs old coke". Fans have never really given modern sonic (the new coke) much love in a long time, and are banking a lot of their games on nostalgia and what it is people have been demanding: the good old classic sonic games (or a.k.a. The old coke).

TBH, I'm not really into the whole D&D thing... I'm not exactly the kind of guy to go way too deep into what he's playing. Sure, there can be a lot of tips of inspiration from that, but to me, in order to do that, I kinda have to go knee-deep into what I'm playing. And in the case of D&D, that can take MONTHS for me...

if its not your thing, its not your thing. you dont have to force yourself if it doesnt appeal to you. it may help in some regards, but its not necessary reading if your passionate about your ideas and what you want to do with them.

  5. well I already showed this one to jcblue in my status updates, but I feel that it should also be posted here (A.K.A. I am still super proud of it and want to show it off somewhere more visible) :

believe it or not this was inspired by a rug, and also to keep this as a sonic related post heres a meh aleena dressed like rose quartz:

to quote (the generally repeated joke of) a relatively crude parody of GoW, slightly altered for situational humour; sonic IS mom.

    2. How is it that the Wolf Pack survived so long? Or to be more specific what is their food source since they live out in the middle of nowhere (The Great Unknown)?

I always thought that it may have been simply due to them having already originated from that region, simply a form of tribal like wisdom that was just ingrained into their minds since long before robotniks take over, and heck, maybe even going so far back as to pre-date the great war.

Wouldn't have fit with the narrative of the games. Most computers in Fallout are 16-bit at best. The game wouldnt have been playable unless it was a text based game.

As a book series or maybe something similar? Perhaps.

I was thinking more along the lines of an actual freddies pizzaria expy being located within Bradburton or the surrounding wasteland, the abhorrent sketchiness of child murders and animatronic robots that stalk the halls at night in search of unwary nightgaurds and the cover-ups therin are practically like every other company in the fallout universe.

cinema existed though, so maybe it could also have been a cheesy 50's horror movie like that one from The Iron-Giant, who knows the possibilities were endless.

  8. those are a few of my reasons for disliking it too. add to that a story which can be summed up with "SHAUN!!!" and it was probably the weakest main entry to date, yet somehow people still reserve that spot for 3.

now back to fnaf, sister location seems to be more in line with the book from what i've heard, sooo does that mean the movie might be too?

That would have been interesting. Though I wonder if the fallout from such a reference was what steered Bethesda away from it. As I said, FNAF isn't exactly the most beloved franchise in the world. It's sort of joined the same group of games like Sonic and COD and so on; just sort of that game you mock in the middle of something completely unrelated, because it makes you "look" better, and people will shower you with praise for it. That cynicism, though.

the pun, it hurts me. jokes aside, that makes sense as it's popularity grew to insane levels exceedingly fast, and a vocal minority of wack jobs wound up spoiling it for everyone else.

though I personally think it was just cause fallout 4 kinda sucks as a fallout game, and bethesda were too lazy to even try.

    Here is a question:

In one episode we see a roboticized Uncle Chuck eat a chili dog. How does that work? What does this imply? Do robians need to eat and still have digestive systems? Or was this a kind gesture to appease a naive Sonic?

well, one theory I heard (and sorta agreed with) was that it may have been that their stomachs were turned into some form of organic matter to energy converter, mainly as an alternative to an actual power unit (and/or their life force because technobabble technobabble MAGICAL SCIENCE OF MAGIC!!!)

  11. I thought the first was original (and that foxy was the least terrifying), the second was the very essence of what every sequel ever is/should be, the third was meh, and the fourth was way too hard (and kinda messed up the series defacto timeline). overall it was a strange little thing that I wasnt a huge fan of, but the lore dished out in the first three kept me invested. it also kept making me think of how the pizzaria wouldnt be out of place in a fallout game, seriously everything that they do/did lines up very nicely with many of the consumer companies in the world of fallout.

    ...

...I also feel that the Fallout: Nuka World expansion had a huge missed opportunity in referencing this series.

  12. not much to say really,  my sister owned our genesis and in her small collection of games was sonic 2. I instantly loved it (though my sis only let me play as tails, many years later I'd realize this was because she was really lazy at baby sitting me and my brother) alongside most of the other ones. sadly she'd give the genesis to our parents who subsequently gave it away to our cousins a few years later and my parents would buy a playstation one as a replacement. this didn't mean i'd forget about sonic completely however, as we owned a few VHS tapes of AoSTH, the few remaining saturn trial consoles at our local walmart had sonic r, as well as sonic underground having begun airing at the time. in a strange twist of fate this is also when I was introduced to sonic SatAM as the episode sonic racer was accidentally aired in lieu of underground to which again, I instantly loved it and kept waiting for it to come on again, only to be met with dissapointment as it was finished its run in canada. from there I wouldn't touch anything sonic related (and amazingly not know about the existence of sonic adventure one, and sonic adventure two aside from my brothers friends sister being super protective of her chao garden) until me and my brother got gameboy advances with advance one and pinball party being bundled with them in 03, around when sonic x began airing (and I hated chris immediately, i despised it and i couldnt be bothered to watch it), in the tail end of 04 we got a playstation 2 as our ps1 was on its last legs (literally being held together with tape and a paperclip), to which bundled with it was sonic mega collection, and heroes. this introduced me to the comics (which I was spotty with purchases because I was cheap) and helped begin to spark my interest in drawing.two years later an old friend of mine would actually show me the trailer for the first riders game and I bought it almost immediatley, thanks to that I also discovered youtube which allowed me to watch the other episodes of AoSTH, and re-discover SatAM, run up to my brother joyously bouncing around and cheering that I was NOT crazy and that there was another sonic show besides underground, it was a good day. from then on I would amazingly hear nothing about 06 being gutter-trash (or even existing) until unleashed, where my mind was stunned and only able to put one thought into existence: wut?! I practically considered the series dead then and there until zero gravity came out and gave me some hope, and then the storybook series happened, which made me scream to the heavens NOPE!!! when colours was announced. generations got me back into it via promises of being like the classics (dirty lies and broken promises) lost world and boom had a few fresh ideas that rotted almost immediatley, wich only shed more light on how good the fan scene can be. and thats almost pretty much it.

  13. heh, well this isnt really sonic related, I felt as though I needed to share it without drowning the sketch-a-day section and it is technically a "concept'esque" sketch that came to me from literally 4 different things. the first was an overall dislike for a story on FF.net, the second was because of me listening to destiny music at the time while looking for am2r, the third a picture of a jerboa, and lastly Torque and the (never seen) chasers from freedom planet.

    it all culminated in this:

    Scan_20160923 (5).png

In the end I'm gonna classify this as Freedom Planet fanart, as we never see other chasers aside from torque in the first and (as of this post) none at all in the second game.

now to keep this sonic related, here's a picture of vanilla dressed like toriel:

goat mom being rabbit mom is all fun and games until you realise that her daughter would have a fate worse than death isn't around.
