Really, they'd probably do that if the film was somehow successful. They have a long history of burying their head in the sand and forgetting things ever happened. But when they do that, they don't learn the lessons they frankly should have learned decades ago. Lessons like, "Don't rush games to market for quick profits" and "Don't give your license to any old developer, especially those who don't understand the source material". It's this stubbornness that has led to Sonic being this joke propped up by nostalgia and memes. They could have fixed this, and yet...they didn't.

That's not to say the blame is entirely on them in this case. Hell, it's barely on them in this case. Paramount knew from the VERY FIRST teaser that people despised the design, they had months upon months to pull the "we're going to fix this honest" stunt. But they went with it anyway, so sure their vision was superior to those of the fans or even Sega themselves. It's not even uncaring so much as it is arrogance, Nintendo levels of it. This isn't SEGA's thing, or the fans' thing like Detective Pikachu is. No, this is Paramount's thing. Their ugly, probably toy-shilling thing. I'm at least very happy that they agreed to change up the design, but now I'm just sort of worried for all the animators who will be working endless hours of (very likely unpaid) overtime to fix an issue that never needed to be one in the first place.

Considering Sega's track record of game quality, I find that quite unlikely.

But SEGA doesn't really need the profits. Most of their money comes from panchinko machines. The problem is that you have the likes of Iizuka (who I kinda feel bad for in a way) and the rest of the old guard at SEGA who believe that they (SoJ) know what's best. Recently it seems Iizuka's kinda relaxed a bit, judging by the SxSW panel as he seemed loose and relaxed. A rumor has floated around that Atlus wants to make a JRPG spinoff for Sonic... which intrugies me.

There's a theory floating around that when Sega saw the design months ago, they asked Paramount to change the design to make it closer to what Sonic looks like in the game but release the trailer with the design as is to get people talking about the film... which worked really. As I said earlier (and doing a bit of research to mostly confirm it) Paramount typically doesn't do trailers until 3-4 months until release. Right now we're about 6-7 months out so it could give credence to the theory that they dropped the trailer to get people talking about it, cause people are now interested in the movie more than they were before, regardless of the reason.

With 2 more years until the 30th anniversary and the only game due is TSR (which looks great), I'm gonna put money on Mania 2 and another game in development by now that's due in the 2 years.

  2. It would take a smarter man than me to answer that question.

Let's be real though; if it bombs, SEGA will just brush it off to the side and act like it never happened.

Apparently it works cause when was the last time they recognized Archie (prior to cancellation), 06, any of the 90s cartoons, etc.? Maybe we'll get lucky and they do what Nintendo did after the Mario Bros. Movie: Make a great game after it (SM64 came out after the Movie)

  3. Honestly, I love the little details that were in the trailers; such as Machamp as a crossing guard, Golurk as a police officer, Mr. Mime being a literally mine, Growlithe acting like dogs, Loudred as a part of a DJ/House show.

I think Greninja, Pikachu, Bulbasaur, & Charizard look the best. I think GameFreak kept an eye on the designs but Warner Brothers did an excellent job. My only complaint is Ludicolo should look more like a Pineapple than a duck.

Also I wish they kept Mewtwo as a twist and not shown in the trailers.

    • What do you keep the same from the originals?
    • What do you change?
    • What do you do with the story beats that didn't work?
    • How do you modernise gameplay styles even Sega doesn't understand?
    • What do you do with Big the Cat? You can't keep his gameplay the same, everyone hates it, but he's also really popular again so you can't just remove him.
    • Do you bring back as many of the old cast as possible or just use the current cast? Or even a new cast of soundalikes?
    • I'd keep the plot just about the same with some fine tuning to the plot to cover the few holes in it. Adventure's plot feels a little outdated and it wouldn't be too hard to modernize it.
    • I would keep the core gameplay just about the same with a few variations, such as Sonic having multiple routes to get to the goal, Zero actually trying to get Amy, etc. However I would like more levels for everyone and perhaps more sub acts like Sand Hill and Sky Chase... and actually have it so you could fail them
    • I want to keep the whole Ancient Echidna subplot with major expansion to it and give the world a little more backstory to it, perhaps a stage or two in the past... assuming a certain writer who can't let it go tries to interfere. Though legally there's nothing he could do.
    • Big is only popular cause he's basically a meme. It's basically a lose-lose situation: keep him and everyone expects meme material, remove him and people will get upset that he's gone. You might be able to find some way to keep him in the plot but there's a very thin line.
    • Since Forces seems to have a lot of Mobians nows, but Adventure has humans, maybe a way to combine the two? Such as having the two live together in the city with the explorers and archeologists also being Humans and Mobians. Maybe have a minor conflict between the two?
    • If 'boost' has to stay, could we please go back to the Unleashed style?
    • In terms of the cast, keep the original and maybe include some of the newer characters even if it's just cameos. Maybe have Gamma start his story and have Omega finish it? Have Cream try to help Amy out with the Flicky? Perhaps in the future Chaos rises again and Silver travels back in time to figure out how to stop it? There's a few ways it could be played out.

Perhaps integrating such an app with this new game is the plan? It would be like the original with the Tamagachi-esque usage of the Dreamcast memory stick.

I mean it's not like you can use the VMU for a Chao Adventure like it was in the Original game. An app to connect the game with it would be great.

You could kinda do it like Go in a way or maybe just expand upon what we had in Advance.

  6. I mean, the idea of expanded hub worlds and chao gardens sound really enticing to me. Again considering that part of the original game was a part tech demo I hope the gameplay can be refined so that it isn't a tech demo and is actually fun. To be honest, I kinda hope Big's section gets cut.

A remake of Adventure makes sense but if they touch Adventure 2 that should be more of a remaster.

ON the Subject of Chao Gardens... why in the hell hasn't Sega made a mobile version of the Chao Gardens??

I wonder if any fans will keep it going in some form or fashion. After all, what could have been is something that at least a good handful of people would take time to investigate in game hacks, fan-fics, ect.

    So... kinda like us?

  8. Originally I thought this was going into the territory of  "It's so bad it's good"

Now and at this rate, I'm kinda hoping Sega pulls the film and cut their losses.

Better yet, I'm hoping this will light a fire under SoJ, SoA, and Sonic team to make a game that's got the quality akin to Super Mario Odyssey and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  and the fun of Mania, Generations, Unleashed, and the Adventure series

Could have done something like this with the design and you would have been alright.

So, to keep things back on track anyone go some thoughts regarding Issue #9? I'll say this, Super Neo Metal Sonic is so dumb, it's kinda cool but really dumb at the same time. I mean I'm not against it but still ?

I agree with the consensus that it's better than Metal Overlord.

If Metal Sonic thinks he's the real Sonic, then a super form isn't out of the question. It also makes M.O.'s design even more bizarre

I've been hearing that there have been some issues within the IDW comics. Supposedly someone is trying to insert their politics into it and everyone's falling out and Ian Flynn is apparantly evil now? Can anyone confirm any of this?

If it's from Save Archie Sonic, then it's not true at all.
