Those are some of my favourite bands and one of my favourite of their songs. I too like a lot of genres, but mostly gravitate towards Progressive Rock/Metal and Power Metal. I listen to music from the Gothic Period up to now; I don't believe that music has an expiration date.

Well, seeing this thread really dead as of late, I figured I'd ask a few questions I've been pondering about for my fic to see if I can get answers and opinions about it.

#1: Do you believe Sonic and Tails having a real personal fight over something or someone like that one issue in Archie Sonic would make for a good episode if done right?

#2: If G.U.N was apart of the series, do you see them and the Freedom Fighters having their own personal conflict where they would fight each other instead of working together against Robotnik?

#3: How much detail do you think love triangles should go into compared to the actual war in order to make it interesting, but not too cliched and teen drama-ish?

#1: I personally liked the idea of Sonic and Tails having it out. Making Tails his own person and coming into his own is what's best in my opinion. Now, having a knock-down-drag-out over a girl... well... Tails at 12 is too young to have it be serious enough if she's of age, and if she's of Tails' age bracket, then... that turns Sonic into a pedophile. Not to say Tails couldn't have feelings for an older girl, I just don't think it would be to the point of violence if Sonic tried to be with her, plus I don't see Sonic doing something uncool like taking his friend's love interest, even if she doesn't return that interest. Now, like I said, I like the idea of him and Tails having a brawl, but it could be over a lot of different things, like Sonic trying to be overprotective of Tails and him not wanting to stay under Sonic's thumb so to speak.

#2: Having a common enemy will make strange bedfellows, just look at Naugus and the FF in Season 2. I personally see it as they'd be uneasy allies, but soon after if Robotnik is defeated I would see them starting to fight.

#3: It really depends on wot you are wanting. For character interaction/development it should be done, but balanced, you do not want it to take over your story and become a distraction/show stopper. If you're going more story centered and focusing less on character development then you want to marginalize it, but not to the point that the characters become flat if that makes sense.

  3. I agree with Red above on that developers are going for too much glitz over functionality/story. But, I also think there are three other issues that permeate gaming that have caused this to happen in my opinion:

    1. The Reviewer-Publisher relationship.

Within the recent years there've been stories come out about the companies strong-arming reviewers to get good scores. If they don't give a game a positive review, when the next game comes down the pike their review copy might be a bit later than the competitors if it comes at all. All gaming sites and magazines rush to be the first to review games, especially ones like Fallout; being late to the party means less clicks and thus less ad revenue, which most cannot afford. So, they give games like Fallout 4 and Andromeda a free pass; only docking it very little if at all, which will cause many gamers to rush out and get the game.

    2. The loyal fans of the game.

Let's face it, there are people that blindly love certain games/series of games that are by consensus of most other gamers are not that good and they'll accept anything and vehemently defend game "X" until doomsday. Depending on how large this group is for said game it can make it sell good no matter what, so the companies will have no motivation to improve.

    3. Safe praise.

This is the other side of the coin to the concept of "safe hate;" i.e. that a game sucks because it sucks and "everybody knows that" and goes along with it in a herd mentality, which is a terrible position to take. When Fallout 4 came out in particular I held the unpopular view that it wasn't a good game; myself and those who had the same opinion as me, even gaming websites got a lot of static from the mainstream because we didn't just like the game because it was Fallout and thus is by default a game that gets a free pass. Bottom line is that unless people are willing to say the Emperor is naked or kill the sacred cow; in other words be objective then you will just keep on inviting bad games to be made.

Essentially if these points are not rectified there'll be another video game crash, but at least this time we have the indie scene unlike back in '83.

Considering he hasnt worked on Sonic in over 5 months with everything up in the air, it's probably just him trying to clear up his schedule and not give people false hope that the comic is coming back

If the comic isn't dead he should be giving the fans hope, not taking it away.

  5. Definitely a rumor, but it wouldn't surprise me. Archie has Sega micromanaging them through draconian edicts on wot they can and cannot write, and if it's true they want more money for the license whilst the comic is cratering sales wise, it makes a good business decision.

If you look at it the comic was a promotional tool to get Sonic out there and noticed in the early days, which Sega of America undoubtedly started with Archie, being as it was based on the cartoons/American Cannon. It's really a holdover from those early days; it's just has been really venerable. Now that the comic is more or less totally based on the games it's lost its appeal and thus is falling to the same problems as with the games thanks to SoJ's meddling.

Now, I know that I cannot lay this all at SoJ's feet; Penders and his lawsuit really messed things up. In my opinion he just sped up Sega's micromanaging of one of their ignored properties. It's really a "chicken and the egg" debate as to what is cause and affect of the current situation, but I can't without a doubt point all the blame at Penders; SoJ has just as much if not more blame.

Anyway, it's still unconfirmed and I'm still holding out hope that the comic might be restored to its former glory, but with each passing day it look less likely. Bottom line is Archie really needs to be straight with us; the longer they wait, if it is truly not canceled, they leave it open for rumours and such like this which cause a lot of damage to the comic in and of itself if it's not true.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Edit: also: http://bumbleking.com

Ian Flynn no longer lists Sonic as any of his projects.

"Moore recounted to Glixel his futile efforts to demonstrate to Sega of Japan that the company’s relevance was declining. Sega’s American division filmed a focus group in late 2001 or early 2002 to get opinions from “a bunch of 18-, 19-year-olds” on how they saw gaming companies. The teens characterized Sega as “your grandad,” said Moore. “Used to be cool, but even he can’t remember why anymore.”

Next, Moore flew to Sega’s Japanese headquarters to present the data to executives and lead developers. As you might imagine, they were less than receptive:

Yuji Naka, Naka-san, maker of Sonic, is in the room. Now, he and I have a love/hate relationship on a good day. And we show him this, and it’s subtitled in Japanese, and when it comes to that piece he just [slams his hand on the table], ‘This is ridiculous. You have made them say this. Sega is the great brand, nobody would ever say this, you have falsified!’ He just gets in my face. So I said to the translator, ‘Tell him to fuck off.’ And the poor guy looks at me and says, ‘There's no expression in Japanese.’ I said, ‘I know there is.’ And that was it. That was the last time I ever set foot in there."

  7. I noticed that there wasn't a thread for motor sports games, so here's one.

I was thinking about it because I got chosen to be a closed beta tester for Gran Turismo Sport. So far so good for the game; I'm not completely sold yet seeing as how it seems like a stripped down version of a proper release, but they have my attention now.

  8. Dang, this is really not looking good.

If they're in negotiations with Sega it can only be the cost of the license and/or Sega's mandates/demands placed on the comic.

With the comic's sales plummeting like it is the license is probably costing them more than they're making. From the sounds of it they're trying to hammer out a deal where if Sega continues its draconian mandates the price of the license gets lowered and/or Archie wanting more freedom with the writing going forward so they can make appealing stories that will sell.

let's hope that cool heads prevail and the comic gets better out of this. As it sits as SoJ and video game only content goes it's just not going to sell with those mandates and they might as well end it now or at #300.
