  1. Never watched Fringe, so I have no clue where you're going with this 🙃

According to this old source circa 2001, via Ken Penders, an idea came about that the Tails we knew in the comic actually came from another zone as a baby, one which didn’t have Sonic.

Mind the glaring plot holes in this, but it sounds too wild to not be a fabrication. Especially coming from him.

Yeah, that sounds like something he'd cook up.🤕

    Set ablaze by Messmer’s flame.

It was to this land that Miquella departed.

"Mandalorian" actress Gina Carano sues Disney over firing [CBS News]

    Quote

Actress Gina Carano on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against Lucasfilm and its parent The Walt Disney Co. over her 2021 firing from the series "The Mandalorian."

In the suit filed in federal court in California, Carano alleged she was wrongfully terminated over controversial posts made on X, then known as Twitter. In one post, the actress compared the divided American political climate to Nazi Germany. She was also accused of mocking transgender people and mocking mask-wearing during the COVID pandemic.

"The truth is I was being hunted down from everything I posted to every post I liked because I was not in line with the acceptable narrative of the time," Carano said in a Tuesday post on X. "My words were consistently twisted to demonize & dehumanize me as an alt right wing extremist. It was a bullying smear campaign aimed at silencing, destroying & making an example out of me."

Her suit made several references to the "Star Wars" world.

"A short time ago in a galaxy not so far away, Defendants made it clear that only one orthodoxy in thought, speech, or action was acceptable in their empire, and that those who dared to question or failed to fully comply would not be tolerated," the suit alleges. "And so it was with Carano."

According to the suit, Carano's posts were made while she was off-duty and away from the workplace. She alleges she was fired because she "dared voice her own opinions, on social media platforms and elsewhere, and stood up to the online bully mob who demanded her compliance with their extreme progressive ideology"

In August of last year, Elon Musk offered to fund the legal bill of people unfairly treated by their employers "due to posting or liking something" on X. Carano replied, saying she thought she qualified.

The social media company confirmed it is aiding Carano in her suit.

  8. Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer arrives early, but the game won't until 2025 [Engadget]

    Quote

Rockstar has released the trailer of Grand Theft Auto VI, the next game in the blockbuster video game franchise a day earlier than expected. Unfortunately you'll have to wait until at least some point in 2025 to play it.

It's been a decade since Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto V. While fans have been more than able to keep themselves busy with GTA Online and a few re-releases, they've been waiting patiently (or impatiently) for more single-player action. The wait now has a theoretical end with Rockstar revealing the first official look at the game and a 2025 release window.

As indicated by a recent teaser image, leaks and various rumors, GTA VI will be set in Leonida, Rockstar's take on Florida, and largely centered on Vice City, the series' stand in for Miami. Given that the trailer features a ton of Instagram-style live streaming, GTA VI seems to be a contemporary game, rather than one set in the '80s like 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. It remains to be seen if those streams are an integral game mechanic, purely narrative tool or just an aesthetic choice for the trailer, though.

    🤣Good one!

All this seems to me is that they're just trying to have Kamala Khan be more relevant before the movie comes out.

    Yeah, that sounds accurate 😜

18 hours ago, Mike Arcade said:

So let me get this right, she died as an Inhuman, but now comes back as Mutant. If that's not a course correction for how badly they screwed up the Inhumans and to further bury them by not having her be associated with them, then I don't know what is.

I agree. How does that even work?

    From the Marvel Wiki:

    Quote

More then half a million years ago, the alien race known as the Kree visited Earth and experimented with a group of primitive humans. Their intent was to engineer soldiers in their intergalactic war for conquest, but instead it was foretold that said creations would one day destroy them. The Kree ended their experiments and left the Earth, expecting the experiments to die, but the test subjects and their descendants would go on to form a society of their own isolated from the rest of humanity. They became known as The Inhumans, an advanced sub-species of the human race who gain their powers through exposure to Terrigen Mist, which activates the augmentations in their DNA

Okay, so technically she could have had a latent mutant gene that was activated by exposure to the Terrigen Mist, but I don't recall that being in her origin story.

From her entry at the Marvel Wiki:

    Quote

Kamala possesses an unrevealed power from her mutation. Charles Xavier believes that Kamala having her Inhuman powers activating first was suppressing her mutant powers. Xavier noted that unlike other mutants, Kamala was able make contact with Terrigen Mist without suffering any ill effects.

Meh, smells like a ret-con to me :P

18 hours ago, Mike Arcade said:

If anything, this shows how cheap and transparent the character is, like all the Silver Age Jimmy Olsen stories where he gets powers every week, except this is meant to be played straight.

    That's a great comparison. 😁

18 hours ago, Mike Arcade said:

There's no unique identity to Kamala Khan, she takes the name Ms. Marvel, was based around the Inhumans, and is now riding the X-Men train which already has a massive cast of characters.

Woot, woot...all aboard the Hype Train! This month's stop is Krakoa!😅

I told ya that the "Ms Marvel" moniker was cursed🫠😄

Ms. Marvel Is Coming Back ALREADY?! [Joe's Geek Show, ~3 min.]

    Quote

These are my thoughts on the quick death and return of #msmarvel.

I suppose that was necessary in order to get the comics & the movie universes incarnations of her on the same page (pun intended), but it does feel like her return came too soon. As Joe said, there is so much they could have done with the aftermath; Marvel missed a great opportunity to dive deeply into Kamala's past and develop the people she interacted with regularly. Oh well... :P

I think it'll be rated PG-13. Makes sense for box office sales. Also, The Hunger Games was rated PG-13 and it had blood and plenty of child death in it. I don't think a movie has to be rated R to be scary.

All jokes aside, I liked a few things from Ultimate Marvel back in the day, but it always rung out to me as the A-Hole Marvel Universe due to how a lot of characters can come off as completely jerks.

Ultimate Avengers didn't appeal to me, but then again I was never a big fan of  the Avengers.

That's not even getting into how the line of comics shot itself in the foot with Ultimate Power, the Ultimates sequels, and Ultimatum which basically killed all momentum and investment for a majority of readers...along with far too many characters to count. At least, until Peter Parker died and Miles Morales came in to the fold to briefly bring some life into it. But by that point the damage was done.

I'm inclined to agree with that; ya couldn't keep up with who was who without a scorecard ;)

The way I understood it as a kid was that it was the Younger Marvel Comics with usually younger versions of the Marvel Super Heroes, and that Nick Fury was based off of Samuel L. Jackson (and now you know how he got in the Marvel Movies).

    Sound about right to me.

Personally, I find it more comical than anything else.

Yeah, I thought it was hilarious, but it proves that the editors didn't do their job very well so it made Marvel look bad in general 😳

  17. Pixar film 'Elemental' opens as studio's second-lowest box office debut [Reuters]

    Quote

LOS ANGELES, June 18 (Reuters) - Pixar's animated movie "Elemental" took in roughly $30 million at U.S. and Canadian box offices over the weekend, the second-lowest debut in the history of the acclaimed studio behind the "Toy Story" franchise, "Finding Nemo" and other classics.

I'm not surprised. Movies these days focus more on being Woke than telling a good story :P

    Quote

Analysts had predicted that "Elemental" would open with at least $31 million at domestic theaters. The $30 million estimate, which will be finalized on Monday, would rank just ahead of the $29.1 million for 1995's "Toy Story," Pixar's first movie. "Toy Story" became a global blockbuster that spawned multiple hit sequels.

The studio is looking to rebound from the box office disappointment of its 2022 release "Lightyear," the origin story of "Toy Story" hero Buzz Lightyear. The movie brought in an earthbound $226.7 million in global ticket sales, a fraction of the $1 billion take for 2019's "Toy Story 4."

The director and producer of "Lightyear" were laid off last month, Reuters first reported, as Disney shed 7,000 jobs across the company in a cost-cutting effort.

"Elemental" is set in Element City, where Fire, Water, Earth and Air characters live together. An unexpected friendship between Fire and Water borrows from director Peter Sohn’s relationship with his Italian-American wife, which he initially hid from his parents.

  19. Disney delays a pantheon of Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar movies [The Verge]

    Quote

Disney is delaying many of its upcoming Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar movies in part because of production delays caused by the Writers Guild of America strike, according to Deadline.

Let’s start with Marvel. In the “near” term, Captain America: Brave New World moves from May 3rd, 2024, to July 26th, 2024, and Thunderbolts has been delayed from that July slot to December 20th, 2024. (Last month, reports claimed that Thunderbolts was delaying filming due to the writers strike.) Blade has been pushed from September 6th, 2024, to February 14th, 2025, and Fantastic Four is moving from that February date to May 2nd, 2025. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has been pushed from that May date by an entire year to May 1st, 2026, while the follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, has also been pushed a year to May 7th, 2027. One major movie is coming out sooner, however: the still-untitled Deadpool threequel is moving up six months to May 3rd, 2024.

For Star Wars, 2026 is set to be a banner year. An untitled film was pushed from December 2025 to May 22nd, 2026, while a second untitled Star Wars is now scheduled to release on December 18th, 2026. In April, Disney announced that three new Star Wars movies are on the way, with one bringing back Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker. It’s unclear which of these movies is tied to which date.

The famously slippery Avatar series is keeping up tradition, with the third Avatar film delayed a year to December 19th, 2025. And we’ll be waiting even longer for the next two movies, which were both pushed out by three years: the fourth is now scheduled for December 21st, 2029, and the fifth is set for December 19th, 2031.

The Hollywood Reporter has all of the changes if you want to see the full lineup. (Those include a new date for the live-action Moana: June 27th, 2025.)

Odd. The 3rd Deadpool movie has been pushed up, but everything else has been pushed back? I don't think the Writers' strike is the real reason; the Clownfish crew seems to agree (*language warning* F-bombs galore!)
