Although considering the Acorn Kingdom doesn’t seem as bad as it was before the Reboot, why didn’t they try to go to the Kingdom for help? Or GUN for that matter

Good question; I kinda wish Ian Evan had shed a little more light on that before the series ended. I think one of the FFs may have even asked something similar. I'll need to look through those issues again before I can comment further, but Cassia and Clove at least had a compelling reason to work with Eggman in spite of not being completely on board with the way he did things. That made them more memorable that most badniks.

  2. I think Saberspark was being generous in his review of Lightyear; maybe it was because he liked Socks :D

The title pretty much says it all.

    Lightyear was NOT Necessary...

I felt this was a film with Buzz slapped across it...

I think that is a big part of the reason the movie did not do well. It wasn't so much a movie -about- Buzz Lightyear as it was a movie the character was shoe-horned into. Saber also made a good point about how streaming has become the main venue for movies & it's going to be difficult to get people back into theaters. Movie theaters will somehow have to offer an experience viewers cannot get through streaming, or they'll be done IMO.

For one, several titles that I thought were going to be on this Mini Console have been confirmed, though to be fair a bunch of them were no brainers. For one, we got Final Fight CD, I mean to be fair after Streets of Rage 2 on the last Mini, it makes sense to put this one in. Another obvious one, as to go with the 6-Button controller, is Super Street Fighter II. A classic no matter how you play it. We also got BOTH Lunar games, absolute favorites among Mega-CD titles, though many love the first one, I've always been more partial to Eternal Blue. Lastly, the Mini 2 is getting the Toaplan Arcade Classic Tatsujin (Truxton, as it's known internationally) and Fatal Fury 2, the latter of which is a pretty nice surprise.

👏😁 A frined of mine was a big fan of Lunar 😎

We then have several Japanese Only titles, such as a Mahjong game, one about Sumo Wrestlers (which does look kinda interesting), a Mega-CD Completion Title, and a New Mega Drive Port! This one being a title that's known internationally as Spatter.

...I'll be honest, while Spatter looks like a decent Arcade Game, and that it looks better than the original...gotta say I was pretty disappointed with this one. I'm all for Obscure Arcade Ports, but it's not particularly like Fantasy Zone or Star Mobile.

    Interesting...

So, how do you think this Mini is looking so far, and what sort of games are you hoping for? Let me know and let's see about getting this discussion going. :)

@ByTor, Prince of Ro’den @MoKat As those of you who are more familiar with Arcade Games from back in the day, what sort of New Genesis Ports would you like to see?

The Mini is looking good so far ^.^

As far as new ports go, nothing in particular comes to mind right now, but I've always liked ports of obscure games. That sumo wrestlers game sounds interesting, and I can sorta see why it never made it out of Japan before.

  5. I'm inclined to agree with other reviewers who said that the system is more complex than it needs to be & that TSR did a way better job when they made the Marvel Superheroes RPG. This beta is more rules playing than role-playing, and confused me way more that Fate did. Fate didn't have enough structure; this system went the opposite way :P

    {Edit: And the word "polymath" now annoys me because of this stupid system; they seem to use it as a catch-all >.<}

  6. After reading this article, I think I'll add Sara's book to my reading list:

Drama Queen: One Autistic Woman and a Life of Unhelpful Labels

    Quote

Reading a checklist of autistic traits in girls and women was like reading a profile written specifically about me. I took a test online called the aspie quiz and had an unexpectedly high score. Thanks to being extremely lucky to have my husband’s work health insurance, I only had to wait a month for a diagnostic appointment where a clinical psychologist confirmed my suspicion that I was never lazy, spoiled, rude, dramatic or any of the other self-loathing labels now stuck to me with metaphorical superglue. I was autistic. And, according to the clinical psychologist, it was a miracle that I’d survived this far and carved out a place for myself in a society that isn’t built for me.

I've always questioned if Naugus in SatAM would really want to rule the world.

Same here. When he escaped from the Void, his agenda was to punish Robotnik, not world conquest.

On 2/13/2022 at 4:26 PM, Mike Arcade said:

    2. They are quite contradictory in terms of methods, Robotnik using technology and Naugus being a Wizard. For that matter, in SatAM at least, we are never told that he's working to overthrow the King with Robotnik. All we know was that he worked with him in checking out The Void, and that's it. Honestly, there's a lot of wiggle room in interpreting him as a villain, or even an Anti-Villain. We do know that he would end up working with Snively in Season 3, but otherwise his motives for working with Robotnik, at least with The Void, and what other motivations he had are up in the air. I must stress that SatAM is NOT Archie Sonic, and vice versa. It's a common misconception that has been interpreted for far too long.

Totally agree with this point. Naugus & Snivley -do- have one thing in common though: they both hate Robotnik. An alliance between them makes way more sense than one between Naugus & Robotnik. But, yeah, the Archie Comics series borrowed heavily from SatAM, but it's not the same universe.

  8. Why Lightyear Bombed At The Box Office, And What We Can Learn From It [Slashfilm]

    Quote

"Lightyear" still has a way to go at the box office, but, as of this writing, it has earned $155 million worldwide against a reported $200 million budget. The big problem is that it has to contend with competition in the form of "Minions: The Rise of Gru," which is going to cut into its legs at the domestic box office. "Lightyear" opened with a soft $50.5 million, losing out to "Jurassic World Dominion," which was in its second weekend of release. This is on the very low end for a Pixar film and, even though it marked the biggest opening weekend for an animated film since the pandemic began, it's all relative in the movie business. The steep decline in its second weekend signaled things were going to go from bad to worse.

That $200 million budget doesn't account for marketing, meaning that the film probably cost well over $300 million all told. And, given that studios only see roughly half of the money earned at the box office after theaters take their cut, Disney isn't going to get anywhere near profit during the theatrical run of this movie. No two ways about it: this is not what Disney had in mind when they opted to get creative with the "Toy Story" franchise and gave the green light to this spin-off.

"Get creative"? Sounds like a euphamism for "go Woke" to me 🙃

    Quote

It's easy to see how Disney would be won over by the idea of a "Toy Story" spin-off centered on Buzz Lightyear, especially with the guy who played Captain America taking on the lead role. That allowed the filmmakers to craft a sci-fi adventure tale with some familiar imagery to anchor it. That seems like a hit on paper. However, in practice, it seems this is simply a movie that not enough people in the marketplace were clamoring for. At least not enough to get them to actually leave the house, pack up the family in the car, and head to a movie theater to go see it.

So are they admitting this was a movie nobody asked for?

    Quote

As was addressed in Susman's comments, one thing that fans of the franchise seemed to be missing was actor Tim Allen, who is deeply associated with the character of Buzz Lightyear. Granted, the filmmakers have made it clear that Allen is the toy and Chris Evans is the character in the in-universe film. Still, the absence of the voice that anchored four "Toy Story" films was felt. It even generated controversy as actress Patricia Heaton said on Twitter, "Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal Tim Allen. Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns. Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?"

Reactions like this stirred the pot quite a bit. Beyond that, there was the matter of the same-sex kiss that was included in the film. Though a very brief moment, it caused a stir online with those who are against LGBTQIA+ representation in family-friendly films. Plus, Disney's decision to not censor the kiss in certain countries resulted in it being banned in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and other territories. The lack of ticket sales in those countries does add up.

While it may not be a number large enough to account for the lackluster box office overall, there is the matter of moviegoers who were upset by either Allen's absence or the kiss. Those who decided not to see "Lightyear" for these reasons may well have been a contributing factor, but certainly not the biggest factor.

  9. This clip is from Beavis & Butthead do the Universe...

Beavis and Butthead do White Privilege [2:14]

ScreenRant reviewed it here - Beavis And Butt-Head Do The Universe Perfectly Insults Every Modern Reboot

    Quote

Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe perfectly insults the current Hollywood trend by doing the opposite of most modern reboots and is all the better for it. Mike Judge’s dimwitted teenage, no-so-dynamic duo lead Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe's voice cast in the pair's wildest adventure yet, which can be streamed on Paramount+. In the film, Beavis and Butt-Head are shot into 2022 after a journey to space sends them through a black hole, but for as much of a change as that might seem for the two of them, Do The Universe in many ways is just another Beavis and Butt-Head story.

In Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe, Beavis and Butt-Head have no higher goal beyond their usual mission to “score,” in this case with astronaut Serena Ryan (Andrea Savage). This establishes that despite the pair’s outlandish space and time-travel journey, Do The Universe really only re-invents Beavis and Butt-Head 's low-brow nature on a minimal cosmetic level. In this respect, Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe thumbs its nose at how modern reboots tend to work.

    ...

I'm surprised that it ran on Paramount+😲

  10. Since when was there a tank in the Backrooms?

    Quote

Considering how high packet loss gets in war thunder, not a bit surprise a few Tiger II’s got stuck in the backrooms. After all, War Thunder is a very realistic military sim that models real life details very accurately… according to a a few of the players who promote the game.

    Quote

The tank is known in different names in the backrooms like: "Entity Killer", "The Death's Sound", "Room breaker", "Devastator", "Beast" etc. The tank is one of the most powerful semi-sentient entity one can encounter in the backrooms. It possesses a good amount of armament and it can literally kill different kinds of entities. It is one of the most feared entity in the backrooms due to it's non-living state, loud noise and strength. However, it is a passive entity. Sometimes some tanks can be driven by other entities like smilers. If these fall on their hands and they get to learn to use it then it is most likely game over for you once you encounter it. Running won't help since it goes fast and destroys walls to reach you. Also it's humming noise will make you and other entities near you scared for life. The only way to acquire one of this from an entity is that by staying still in front. But you also have to dodge shells. When it will reach you, it won't squish you in an instant even thought the smiler or other entity is pushing buttons from the inside. It will ask you about your bravery. When you say that you aren't afraid of the tank or even using it, it will deem you worthy of riding it, thus, kicking the entity lurking in the inside outside. You can also find empty tanks but they won't be much merciful. They will try to kill you. But if you could dodge the attacks and show bravery like ordering it to stop or like "stand still soldier" or "Let me speak first, Where's your honour?", it will stop to hear you. Once you explain your dire situation in the backrooms and request it for assist, it will probably deem you worthy. But it is not so easy, as it doesn't work often. For this to work, you need to be brave, not stupid. The tank also can look at your life and heart to see what you were in the real world. If he claims that you are a p*ssy or c*nt or a simp with no honour and distrust, it will either neglect your request or straight up squish you. So catching a tank depends on your morality and yourself. The tank helps only those who are worthy of his assistance.

How would you bring in the Freedom Fighters in the Sega Games?

I've always been in favor of an RPG, perhaps something like Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, with the core FFs as playble characters. Well, I dunno if anybody would actually use Antione if he were an option, but still each character could have a defined role & skills that would be logical for said role. There would be different missions to complete, and maybe not all characters would be available for a given mission.

  12. Fallout 5 Confirmed by Bethesda, Coming After Elder Scrolls 6 [GameRant]

    Quote

Bethesda is venturing into new territory with Starfield, the studio's first original IP in decades. But while many fans are looking forward to Starfield and its massive game world, others would like to see new entries in Bethesda's established franchises, particularly The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. It seems there will be a lot for Elder Scrolls and Fallout fans to look forward to in the years ahead, as Bethesda has confirmed Fallout 5.

Bethesda's Todd Howard was recently interviewed by IGN about Starfield. During the interview, Howard confirmed that Bethesda is going to make Fallout 5 after it's done with The Elder Scrolls 6. "Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we're going to be doing Fallout 5 after that," Howard said in the interview. Howard also said that Bethesda has "other projects" that it will be working on as well, though it's unclear what those projects may be.

Bethesda Finally Talks ‘Fallout 5,’ And It’s Not Great News [Forbes]

    Quote

We did finally hear Todd Howard talk about Fallout 5 this week on IGN Unfiltered, and here’s what he had to say when asked if a new Fallout could be handed to a new studio (ie. Obsidian, now also owned by Microsoft), with Bethesda itself so busy:

"I don't see... Look, Fallout's really part of our DNA here. We've worked with other people from time to time – I can't say say what's gonna happen. You know, we have a one-pager on Fallout 5, what we want to do."

A one-pager is just a document outlining a potential concept for a game, but as you might expect, turning a single page into a massive AAA video game is a long journey.

In short, Todd Howard is saying that Fallout 5 is not in development past that one-pager yet, nor would he commit to passing the series off to someone else. So, Fallout 5 is probably not on the table for release until…when, exactly?

    And from IGN Unfiltered:

    Quote

Bethesda's Todd Howard has explained that there is an idea for Fallout 5 at the studio, but refused to commit to any other details, from a timescale to possible developers.

Speaking during an episode of IGN Unfiltered primarily covering Skyrim's 10th anniversary, Todd Howard was asked if there was a world where – with Bethesda Game Studios focusing on creating on Starfield, followed by The Elder Scrolls 6 – the next mainline Fallout game could be passed to another developer (previously Fallout: New Vegas was handed to Obsidian, for example).

Howard seemed to play down that idea, adding that there is a tentative idea for what a prosepective Fallout 5 could be: "I don't see... Look, Fallout's really part of our DNA here. We've worked with other people from time to time – I can't say say what's gonna happen. You know, we have a one-pager on Fallout 5, what we want to do."

    Bottom line...

    Quote

But don't expect that idea to become reality for some time yet.

  13. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers review – surprisingly sharp Disney+ update

    Quote

The short-lived late 80s animated series gets a satirical yet earnest reboot with sly jabs at the industry and a host of comedians doing voice work

    Quote

But inside the Trojan horse of a lazily inevitable kids adventure is a surprisingly sharp and detailed comedy. It’s not quite on par with Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, the film it undoubtedly wants to be likened to, but it’s infinitely better than it had any right to be.

Yeah, I was a fan of that show & I'm very skeptical, given Disney's track record. Well, TBH, I'm skeptical of anything The Guardian says these days :P

‘Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers’ Might be One of Disney’s Strangest Films to Date [Hollywood Insider]

If the trailer is any indication, then I'm inclined to agree:

    "Nobody wants a reboot!" 🤣

    It's funny cuz it's true ;)

I'll probably pass on watching this one.

While fan reception has certainly been mixed, apparently critic reception has been quite high, unusually high for that matter. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Because this is the most bizarre reaction to a Sonic Game I've seen...probably ever.

Yeah, that -does- seem strange. Think there could be some shenanigans going on with the "hype train"? Or is it simply that the critics think fans are hungry for a -good- Sonic game & the timing is right given that the 2nd movie came out this year (?)
