  1. Title: Be Civilized

    Written By: Perry Martin

Synopsis: Taking advice from his MarTech device, Eggman decides to use some of their technology to take away Team Sonic's need to fight...and ends up making most of them Tribal versions of themselves in the process. While Perci and Knuckles must step in to take down Eggman in their absence, it's up to the now sophisticated and prim Sticks to keep her near-feral teammates docile...with a tea party.

Main Characters:  Sonic the Hedgehog, Perci the Bandicoot, Knuckles the Echidna, Sticks the Badger (Sophisticated)

Antagonist(s): Doctor Eggman, MarTech A23, Metal Sonic

Backup Characters: Sonic the Hedgehog (Tribal), Amy Rose (Tribal),  Miles "Tails" Prower (Tribal)

    New Characters (with Description): N/A

    Selected Quote:

    • Eggman: "You, tech support!"
    • A23: "Yes, Doctor Robotnick?"
    • Eggman: "That's Doctor EGGMAN to you! Look, I need some new ideas for my brilliant plan to destroy Sonic the Hedgehog! How about...I open a dimension to another world!"
    • A23: "I do not know, you have sort of done that twice already...and I don't really think we got away with it last time. I mean they saw right through the palette swa-"
    • Eggman: "FINE! What do you suggest?"
    • A23: "As a cold, totally unthinking machine, perhaps it is wise to, rather than try to match Sonic's physical prowess, take away his ability to fight at all."
    • Eggman: "What, like make him really slow and scared of everything?"
    • A23: "Yes, Doctor Robotman. We here at MarTech Industries have dabbled with emotional suppressants in the past."
    • Eggman: "Ooh, so do you have anything that'll help my control them? With MIND control?"
    • A23: "I believe we do..."

Had to do the quote in bullet points instead of quote box. Those things don't like me, for some reason.

  2. Honestly, a bit surprised we didn't have this one already. I kind of had to check to see if R was considered a Genesis or Dreamcast game. It's...kind of both.

For those who don't know, Sonic R was the single original Sonic title for the Sega Saturn, alongside a port of Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island as compensation for Sonic Xtreme being cancelled. It was developed by Traveller's Tales and released in 1997, only a single year before Sonic Adventure hit the Dreamcast. This makes Sonic R the very last Genesis-era Sonic game ever produced, unless you categorise Sonic Mania to be a return to that era in some fashion. It's a simple racing game and...it's a bit TOO simple. Five tracks, ten racers, a couple secrets here and there and a very...interesting soundtrack, but honestly not much to write home about.

It's one of those Sonic games that people like to use as a scapegoat when mocking the Sonic franchise for its shortcomings, alongside Sonic 06, Shadow, Rise of Lyric and Unleashed. Honestly, considering its development and what it is versus what it's on (the Saturn was notoriously difficult to develop for), I feel it's not worthy of that sort of scorn. I played it when it got ported to the PS2 with Sonic the Fighters and Vectorman in Sonic Gems Collection, and I had a decent time with it. It's nothing special, but it's not anything wretched either. Though it DID being the Tails Doll into the world and introduce it to the Sonic fandom, who turned it into an obnoxious creepypasta...so there's that, I guess. :/ It wasn't the first Sonic racing game (Sonic Drift), nor the last (Sonic Riders, Sonic All-Stars Racing), but it was the...oddest.

I bring this up because someone has managed to find the first ever prototype and put it online. It, much like the final game, is nothing to write home about. But it's still a very interesting look into how this game started life. Have a look.

I must be honest, I am kind of glad that TT would go on to develop LEGO Dimensions and have another crack at making a Sonic game within it. All things considered, they atoned for the sins of the past. So, what did you think of Sonic R?

So the hard boiled heavies definitely deserve to enter the classic sonic villain rogues gallery?

Well, they've got more personality than the Deadly Six...and none of them talk. I'd say they deserve a spot.

Also, @F07E , I would disagree that there's little to complain about in Mania. I mean, the idea is still pretty cynical, but that does mean I admire Whitehead and the team for making Mania so much more than another Sonic 4, but I kind of hate that people are saying THIS is Sonic's "redemption" and that he's "back". And I don't like that we had to turn the clocks back decades (again) to get that far, just so people would stop taking the **** out of us...and some still do. Also, you know...DRM in the PC port. :/ Does Sega HAVE to screw something up in a Sonic game? At least they removed it, I suppose.

Actually no, I DO have a genuine complaint about Sonic Mania. It's missing a few things actual fangames had for the sake of ease-of-life, it's missing a few updates. Like, whenever you get a game over you have to start all over again and you lose all your score, stuff like that.

  4. [A bit more, after further talks with @TheRedStranger . Can't remember the damage value, though...wait, found it]

The stick-thin man growled like a wild beast as he clutched his head in pain. The cold, the numbing cold from Mujha's breath attack had damaged him greatly, numbing his already dulled mind and causing him extreme migraines. His limbs creaked and stiffened from the cold, causing agony to shoot through his entire body, causing him to yell and scream. Soon, however, his rage blanked out the pain and he jolted up to stare at Mujha, a harsh growl escaping his throat.

"Do not..." Mujha challenged, "This is no time to-"

Mujha could not continue her speech, as the man had thrown himself into a full scream and rushing towards Mujha again, hands bared and aimed at her neck once more. Mujha had no time to swing her sword, with all her synapses running like mad trying to find a faster way. Finally, acting on impulse, Mujha grunted and rushed forward herself, going to push the man with all of her might.

The man, colliding with the stout and strong ice dragon, had no chance in this fight. Thrown into the air like a leaf carried by the wind, he was catapulted down the cliffside where this entire fight had taken place. For the full 30 feet of cliff, Mujha could only hear as the man screamed as he tumbled down the rocky cliff face, getting cut up by the jagged sandstone and crashing into boulders before finally landing with an unearthly thud on the ground below.  The pustules on his skin popped like bubbles, leaving a sick grease-slicked line of yellow puss.

  5. Now you have to remember, I am a young man. I do not have much nostalgia, and a lot of what I see is cynical at best.

Sonic Mania? As in Generations wasn't desperate enough.

COD: WW2? The damage has been already been done with those stupid supply drops, this won't change anything.

    But this?

    MMMMMMM MY CHILDHOOD

  6. [Right, I rolled a 20 elsewhere for this, so I can move first]

On 8/6/2017 at 5:37 AM, TheRedStranger said:

Dust kicking up even above the gulley, Mujha found herself wincing whilst sand began to pelt her face and as this man, this creature, leaped atop her, wrapping his bony knees hard against her ribs, squeezing her lungs, resisting any and all expansion for life giving air. With one skeletal hand he clawed at her throat in a death grip, with the other he frantically pawed her body like a frantically lusting letch. His withered fingers found her belt and began to unsheathed her sword...

But Mujha was to have none of this. Through her choking and her wheezing, her brain rushed while starved of oxygen for a plan. Nearly without thinking,  she jerked her right leg up, kneeing her attacker in the back. He grunted in pain, letting go of Mujha's throat as his bony hands tried to claw at the bruise on his back. Mujha took this time to break a sharp intake of oxygen, quickly inhaling with a strange sort of relief as the balance of the man shifted, throwing him off of her chest, allowing her to breathe. But she knew this reprieve would be short lived. Already, the attacker had stopped trying to pet the bruise and started to reach straight for Mujha again. But this time, she was prepared.

Against her better judgement given the environment, she reared her head back and blew a large gust of freezing cold breath towards the target. He yelped with the bitter sting of the frost breath, small strings of frost forming on his exposed and already damaged hands, reeling him back further and eventually off of Mujha's body entirely. Wasting no time she dashed to her feet, shoving the attacker onto his back in the process, while she reached for her sword and aimed it in the attacker's general direction.

What and who would you like to see in IDW Sonic comics?

Simple, really. A new story, with a new Sonic, and new characters, that doesn't tie itself down to the Classic games or the previous comic series. I want something fresh and new. Basically, take what I said when talking about reinventing the Archie comics...

...And apply that here. Oh yes, and NONE of the people who worked on the Archie comic should come back. None of them. Not even Yardly. Things cannot change if things stay the same.

  9. In a time beyond our own, in a world beyond our reckoning...

From the chilled ashes of forgotten a world of Gelidon exploded into being, an icy jewel, a land of ice and crystal where warmth is an aberration and those with heat still in their veins are outcasts. Nature, once green, hot, and vibrant, has smouldered into a sprawling distortion of its ancient self. Now only a  few known settlements stand, resilient embers in the dying fires from a forgotten age. We are those sparks of life, we are those lights in the blizzard's gloom. And we must fight not to merely withstand the encroaching glaciers but rekindle the flames of the world of our forebears. But this will be no easy task...

The Gelidian Horde stalk these crystalline tundras, these primal taigan sprawls. For years an unseen tyrant has ruled over us with an iron fist, eradicating all resistance. Yet now rebellion has begun. We have turned to the most rustic of lifestyles, the most primitive and meagre of means. Yet where there is nothing to be had; we adventurers know there is much to gain, treasure's unthinkable, arcane truths most unfathomable, and adventure for the sake of adventure.

My name is Allicill. I follow The Order of the Flame. And I yearn to thaw the frozen shackles that bind our realm; I seek the FrostFall. And I have come to you to beesech aid in my quest...

    ===================================

So yeah. After everything, after my own attempts to play D&D games, I have finally decided to give it a punt myself. FrostFall is a roleplaying game set in a ruined, frozen post-apocalyptic future where the world has been rendered near uninhabitable by magic frost and those who wish to control it. Using swords, guns and the power of fire magic, you must battle your way across but one country in this frozen Hell and bring the reign of the Ice Queen to a halt. Will you join?

...Seriously, anyone wanna play? I've got FIVE slots open for player characters. Let's do this! :D
