  1. I'm gonna throw my two cents in here and say the best way to keep the sting of failure as bitter and interesting as possible is to make sonic's decision similar to mass effects ashley or kaiden, except in this instance sonic's decision was a quick one where he was positive that he could rescue both fiona and whomever it was else he was rescuing (perhaps antoine just to add more depth to sonic's disdain for him at the start). To explain why they can't track her down, look no further than it happening on the day of the coup, with the ensuing chaos and associated danger forcing them to flee. I'd keep th idea of her being carted off to a work camp (as robotnik might have believed children as well as the old and infirm would be useless robians), and her subsequent escape forcing her to abandon another friend (made in the work camp) simply because they were slowing her down.
  2. Oh I got another one! Calaway park, decent roller coaster and an assortment of other rides. It hardly holds a candle to marine land from what I've heard though. Got a bunch of fun memories of that place.
  3. I never got it either, but something similar did happen to me after playing fallout 3's mothership zeta
  4. Relevant because of the Calgary stampede going on: http://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/stampeders-pack-the-midway-as-ride-accident-probe-begins-1.533586 I rode it nearly 12 times the day before that same year as the line was the shortest out of all the other rides, each time was sketchier than the last as it was banged up and made odd sounds that got worse each time, I found it fun though.
  5. Well I feel like I didn't get my perspective across properly, my bad. I meant that the cutscenes in cd (including the endings) had sonic be expressive in the right ways, where we can get a bead on just how it is he would act. Namely on how he isn't initially seeming to look for trouble, finds robotnik doing dasterdly things, and jumps headfirst into trouble saving the day just cause it's an adventure, a challenge, the right thing to do. I didn't mean to give the impression that I think sonic should never talk, and to say that it should only be 'sonic vs eggman', as your right in that it kills any deeper narrative, I just used a catch-all term to refer to everything from the pre-dreamcast era which might not have been the best idea. As for dialogue in games I agree to an extent, as there's nothing worse than a poorly written silent protagonist, one great example being the rookie from halo 3: ODST, who was never engaging enough to make the player care about him, But it doesn't neseccarily mean that silent protagonists are dead, as DOOM '16 showed that it still works very well. It's completely situational as to whether or not it will work or not. I apologize for this next bit as I need to vent about this, but fallout 4 is a great example of a game that should have never had a speaking protagonist, It only hindered the narrative and made every bit of choice reduced to yes, no, sarcasm, and charisma, and the ending meant squat as it was always the same monologue regardless of player action or choice. It exemplifies a speaking protagonist done poorly, which is why I found it one of the most dissapointing games of 2015.
  6. I agree completely, it's a shame sega seems to forget how well they presented everyone prior to the dreamcast era. The last games that ever relied on actions to tell a narrative and show character was the advance series.
  7. Eh it was already a bit of an off topic post on my part, That aside, I agree completely.
  8. Indeed it could! Though on a semi-related tangent I think it was done by the same studio which did the OVA, which means if it weren't for sonic 4, it could have been like a prequel to the OVA.
  9. I'm actually kinda planing on re-doing that entire page to see if the scene does better without the over use of cartoon physics, i'm not stellar so it might not be the best, but it might be fun. Coincidence of the highest caliber; I did one because I challenged myself to do better than the original artist that penned the most infamous scene, and the other because I was playing sonic riders 2 around the 25'th anniversery and found that abis was the first death-god boss sonic curbstomped without the emeralds. Big IS creepy though...
  10. True, perhaps I'm just super biased to the old microsoft pinball game on xp when it comes to video game versions of pinball. This one was still significantly higher than central park from gotleibs hall of fame for the ps2 however, screw central park.
  11. I like pinball, I just wasn't a big fan of that particular one.
  12. I never played this when it was new, but I DID get to play it on the sonic advance combo pack ... I didn't like it.
  13. well this may be a little late, I had cold that just wouldn't stop making me hack up a lung every 5 seconds, but here is what I managed to get accomplished between that, work, and my own easily distracted mind! first up is lord nuisance of the world of tomorrow, silver (and gemerl, just sayin he would have made way more sense than blaze in 06. before anyone asks, yes I gave him a gun, why? because I was thinking of metal arms: glitch in the system when I drew him for some reason, and I thought "why not, the egg pawns use 'em"). next up is one I'm actually not 100% sure is my best. I tried drawing it more than once, but each was no different than the last: and yes, I did make make it look like that one miyazaki anime, of which I was reminded of thanks to my brother, and know nothing about. And lastly just a little doodle I did in relation to the discussions on previous archie artists, in particular my take on the infamous slap.
  14. I agree, no offense to Jon, but his style just didn't mesh at the time. He could draw sonic, but he couldn't really draw 'SONIC'. I feel that archie sonic artists have always been linked to the direction of the writer in charge at the time, especially with regards to what sort of tone the writer is trying to achieve. With gallager he was trying to strike a balance between SatAM and AoSTH, so the artists at the time were going for that sort of look. penders/bollers on the other hand wanted it to be a 'serious comic' like that of DC an Marvel, so we got artists who were more stylized than grounded given more free reign than they should've been. And lastly with flynn he desired for the games and the comics to be closer than before (this before the mandates mind you), so the art staff went in the direction of sonicX and official SoJ style.
  15. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if blazes concept art inspired her on some level, just like how one of creams may have inspired marine. It's interesting to see how ideas may persist even after they've been scrapped, like how honey the cat was resurrected from junk data, or how fallout VB/3 would become fallout NV in a multitude of small ways.
  16. I enjoy artist jennifer hernandez' work, particularly with regards to interaction and reaction shots (such as those in homesick and waves of change) and the consistency exhibited from panel to panel. which I personally feel is immensely better than the artwork of Jon grey which existed during the infamous slap back in issue 134. For example, the pencils from waves of change: And (an admittedly humorous edit of) the infamous slap: In 134 You can tell what jon's intention was, but in trying to convey emotion through these hyper-stylized visuals, it actually hinders the impact of the scene by turning the characters into caricatures. Now with Jen and waves of change, there's still style, but it's kept in check so as to keep the scene on track with the context of the situation. By toning it back it holds more weight, sonic's initial shock and subsequent indignation at the situation looks organic, and as the reader you can follow along and feel yourself engaged even if the writing isn't steller.
  17. Woah woah woah, silence these heretical thoughts!!! We all know this is WAY too innovative for segtendo to successfully pull off. (I still agree wholeheartedly however)
  18. It's actually kind of funny, her legs started out more feminine until I had to add both the loincloth and pants. As for her muzzle, I wasn't really feline like changing it as most of the concepts and the final product looked like this. I could try that some other time though. Thanks for the feedback!
  19. I wish I could go faster... WARNING, CRINGE LEVELS REACHING CRITICAL.
  20. sonic's song, if only because I used own the VHS. (I also didn't mind christmas blast)
  21. sonic racer. its the first one I ever watched and its the one most burned into my memory, I loved how every characters interactions made them feel grounded and human in a way the recent games and comics sadly can't do.
  22. cream, but I already know there gonna use sticks to cement her status. RIP old 5th main, a large number of people hardly liked ye.
  23. I'll repeat what I said the first time I heard about this: cgi live action hybrids are almost always bad, and there's a reason why the fan film is terrible, It's also why 06 is still the most recognizably bad sonic game even when things like boom exist.
