  1. A perfect example of how you can take an idea and make it new. Well written fan-fiction, such as Sorzo's work, is a testament and example to those who would aspire to write about material they love and inspired them. In turn what can impress upon us we too upon can impress. When we take in an idea, that idea is consumed into us and can transform into something utterly novel. I would hope reading through new concepts and ideas like these will inspire you all and help you realize you can do more than merely carbon copy a series, add a shallow recolor or self-insert character, and play around in someone else's story. You can remake it; impact it the way it impacted you. Don't be afraid to remake the Chaos Emeralds (or nix them). Don't be afraid to kill off Robotnik or make Antoine a hero. Don't be afraid reveal a new flaw or send a character on a new course. Fan-work is about the celebration of what you love, yes, but it is also a way to explore the possibilities of what the original material will never personally satifisy creatively within you. Remember, even Walt Disney took his ideas from The Brother's Grimm, he just made them his own, and in turn gave us all something new. Like him, maybe someday you can reap the rewards from something as great. Who knows? Godspeed Sorzo, keep at it and continue improving.
  2. I indeed would prefer a full animated world. Why they did not go with Pixar/ Disney boggles my mind. They could make something awesome. I would kill to have Ed Catmul and John Lasater to produce a Sonic story.
  3. You have been tasked for redoing the really abstract and vague aesthetic of the cartoon to improve iverall animation quality. What would you do to the art, especially the characters?
  4. Does anyone else have any pressing questions?
  5. We will be having our first member interview soon! Stay tuned for more details; you might even be the one.
  6. The music was also amazing and breeches the supposed limits on the 16bit sound card . To think Micheal Jackson worked on it still boogles the kind a bit. The Ending Theme of Sonic and Stranger in Moscow melodically similar for a reason. https://youtu.be/yZdiu84GS48 See the mash up and it fits perfectly. I love how the music is getting remixed and modernized as well:
  7. Going to read all of Stephen King's IT soon. Hope it is good as the hype! After that I will probably read that The Stand.
  8. You could basically use the same move set and have to learn a Rock Paper Scissors style way to counter his emulated techniques. It would be funny if you could mess with his sensors after damaging his optics by going slow and the moving to attack him quickly from different angles. Unthinking and deconstructing you own move set you were using in the game through out would turn the mechanics into a empathic experience with what Sonic is having to do himself in the story.
  9. Romans 1:18-22 "It is evident that an acquaintance with natural laws means no less than an acquaintance with the mind of God therein expressed." - James Joule, Founder of The Second Law of Thermodynamics, Personal Journal. Yes. Like the inventor of the Gene Gun and the MRI I am a Creationist and a Christian. I am also a big fan of the astrophysicist Doctor Jason Lisle, his work on the thermal currents through the sun is some fascinating stuff. I bring friends to the Creation Museum all the time and we will discuss these things. It's been a wonderful witnessing Oppurtunity. Needless to say Nye's plans have backfired; I have more positive encounters and witnessing opportunities because of him.
  10. I live in the State and it has done a lot. Steve Besheer did not win friends with the liberals in his party over helping it go along, but the whole state has thanked him for it. Ken Ham washed the floor with Bill Nye yet again on the first day there - it's hikarious. The Creation Museum is actually better than the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in presentation and material. I have been to both. I ironically learned more about the hypothesis of macroevolution there than the Smithsonian, which is actually much more preachy and actually had a SHRINE to Darwin. The Creatiin Museum shows you both worldviews, which is wonderful. By God's good grace I actually won my ex-agnostic friend (Wulfsbane) over merely discussing the material. As for that shrine - your tax money at work folks. Secularism has become the new State Church. Your taxes are the alms.
  11. I am from the good ol' Blue Grass State and we do Sonic stuff all the time. Go check your area - there will be conventions and meet ups. I am sure of it.
  12. You can't be the only one - everyone else should share their thoughts on this with you. You should totally make that thread.
  13. Probably one of the best works on the site so far. It's dark but in a very meaningful way, exploring the characters in extremes and taking bold risks with the traditional Satam narrative. The concept of Feralization is fresh (funny that you pulled it off before even Zootopia flirted lightly with it; you went all the way.) Adding new religious and spiritual elements is bold and pulled off rather well. It's cool to see characters free from PC producers and pressure-groups that would hamper religious themes in cartoons in the "official" material. You have embraced the beautiful power of fan-work, freedom. I hope to give this one an in depth review when I find the time. I also hope to someday see more from this story.
  14. I am with Takei on this when it comes the vision of Gene Rodenberry. It also makes me fear what other arbitrary changes they will pull off to make Star Trek "relevant" (pandering for attention rather than making solid story that really does not even focus on this subject). It also puts Sulu in a PC vice and could even escalate him into Suedom in the pursuit of a bigger box office break, going for the real rather than the ideal. The basic rule of creative works: what you do to take in new fans will be what it takes to keep them. If the character has flaws, especially in his relationships, reactionaries could accuse Star Trek of subverting "progressive" ideals and "positive action for the LGBT community." Takei's solution is better but even still it would be subject to unrealistic expectations by a number of radical insatiate SJW's. This could end up being disrespectful to Roddenberry's tasteful subtle style when it came societal commentary (like his commentaries on racism and sociocentrism). The he first meeting with the Romulans in the series is a brilliant example of this. Does anyone remember that episode?
  15. Now that the dust has settled and more news is out - anymore thoughts, favorites?
  16. Yes indeed. Good to Daddler and Mokat as well! Here is another late welcome, bud.
  17. The Dwarves does sound like an interesting take on high fantasy from a unique perspective. Might have read some of the books. --- Read all of Stephen King's Memoire of The Craft the other day in one go. It is the around the seventh (eight?) time I have read it and still has lots to give to yourg writers by going through the "vita curricula" of one of America's greatest modern prolific writers. Qoutable get frank, it will help you develop both technical skills, the right mind set, and fresh non-ephemeral and earthy perspective of the writing process and solutions to the struggles of the craft. For the EoT writer team it's actually mandatory homework while they help with the material. Prime rule from the book - "if you want to become a good writer you must read a lot and write a lot."
  18. http://www.sonic-revolution.net http://www.sonic-revolution.net/community/meetups/ I thought you all would love to hear about this group and what they do for the fandom. Who knows? Thanks to these guys some of us might get to meet in person. Big Sonic based events are planned to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our prized Blue-Hedgehog and all his pals. If you plan to go or live in the Bay Area, don't forget to name drop us to fellow fans for the big July Convention! We hope to open talks with these guys via social media and collaborate for the good of the fandom on updating you all when it comes to our Sonic subculture. So expect possible updates on this page.
  19. We will be changing the ranking Icons soon on the site to something more Sonic themed. You guys have ideas? Rings? Chaos Emeralds?
  20. One thing we need to consider too is that Sonic seemingly just has a ton of "friends." As we know, a good story should not have just you and five thousand "friends" - that does not create drama or conflict. Eggman versus a cheerleading cult of colorful cartoon friends and their overlord Sonic does not make a good story in the games (Archie Comics does reasonably better obviously). I think the fickleness from the fans Arcan has explifed is actually just a confused expression of this complex issue of character dynamics. The utter lack of rational continuity in the games worsens this as characters change radically between games and cannot have evolving dynamic arcs. The interactions between characters simply don't ring true because of this and are largely inconsistent. To to be succinct, these reactions are fickle because the games can be largely fickle. They need to stick to developing these characters through out a period of games to keep consistent interest. Many of have just thrown their arms up and said "screw it, all of them are useless - just give me maybe Tails, Robotnik, and Sonic." There has been noted decay over time when it comes to characters as well as stagnation. Ishpar made reference to characters like Knuckles once being a rival. His role was made more and more obsolete when Shadow came around and now he just blends in the cheering crowd as Emerald schlock got old. The big problem is that the characters in the franchise are forced into narrative irrelevancy due to bad writing. Knuckles, Shadow, even 1 Dimensional Yandere Amy could have more influence over the story if they were more than considered "friends." Tails is a good example of a better direction, Tails is basically the little brother figure to Sonic rather than just his friend. Tails looks up to Sonic yet knows he can't be just like him. His theme says it all.His theme says it all. Iroically this makes him a more an interesting friend to Sonic, he is his own person and not contingent to Sonic. He is not a merely a different colored face in the crowd. Remember, you can't have good chemistry with inert elements. Sally and Sonic were like vinegar and baking soda sometimes and could be hilariously explosive on the screen. Knuckles and Sonic in Sonic 3 were opposed in their goals though it was not simple case of black versus white. You have to have an actual dynamic between characters, and the newer games have a tendency to not show that (though Sonic Lost World's slightly redeemed itself when it came to Sonjc and Tails interactions.) Here is a good litmus test: Coukd you imagine this character ever having an interesting side story without Sonco around? Could you imagine any of these characters being able to hold your attention if something happened to ol' Blue? Or would they just have nothing to cheer at for and sit like a colorful animated knot on a largely mundane log? If so, then you indeed have a worthless character. ___ If you guys are interested in fixing this problem, we have a section where we are discussing just that in this very section of the site: "reworking Archie Sonjc characters." If anyone reading this has not been there and has thoughts; you are invited to join in that conversation mentioning this in detail.
