  1. Hi everyone, figured I'd start a new topic regarding something so many of us have speculated during the down time when a new Sonic game hasn't come out in awhile. Lately, it seems that the gaps between game releases for the series grows more throughout the years (which makes me wonder if we should still celebrate Sonic 5 Year Milestones at this point). In any case, how about we do a WWYDD sort of topic for this? What sort of Sonic Game would you like to see? Let's see how we can come up with some brainstorms and see what sort of Sonic game, be it mainline or spin off, what some of us would want. For starters, this is something I've wanted for a long time, but I wanna see what you guys can come up with on this first. How would you like a Sonic Fighting Game and what would it be like?
  2. Shark Boy and Lava Girl is a very odd movie, even from Robert Rodriguez filmography. Also the making of it is kinda sweet, as he made it based off of his kid's (being a toddler at the time) imagination. The concept itself isn't bad, but it's directing is the oddest thing I've ever seen in my life. The entire cast talk like they are little kids in their delivery, which I can't help but think that was completely intentional. It's bizarre, and it's worth at least a laugh or cringe with friends at least. Can't recommend it otherwise, unless you have real little ones I guess.
  3. The Sonic Series has dipped it's hands in many platforms, starting with consoles, then handheld, followed by PC in the mid 90's. While in Japan, Sonic had some Cell Phone games in the past, it's not until the last decade has the notion of playing games on your phones has really taken off. Ever since the creation of the iPhone and Android based products, a new way to play games and such has spawned and skyrocketed throughout the world. SEGA of course is no stranger to new ventures, and naturally Sonic would be a good fit for this as well. So for anyone who wants to talk about the Sonic Games on iOS and Android, here's where we discuss them. From Sonic Dash to Sonic Forces Speed Battle, talk about the latest updates and trends these Sonic games have. For the tail end of October 2020 and until the middle of November, we've got an event where you can earn Halloween characters of Shadow, Rouge, and Metal Sonic in holiday themed costumes. So nab them while you can for this season if you play the game.
  4. Happy Halloween everybody! :)

It's Merry Christmas now goof ball. Don't be putting up the Halloween decorations on your Christmas Tree. Need some Christmas Spirit there, Mike, or we will put you on the naughty list. XP

  5. Such a shame, he was a really talented musician. Unrelated, but was listening to a variety of different music today. Say what you will about the series, but Jojo will lead you to some great music and classics! Along with this, here's a band that I should really look into, this is the first song of theirs I listened to and just find it oddly captivating.
  6. Are you the Salty Sam on the youtubes!? XP Seriously though I've been digging your videos lately, and I really like the Dead Rising LP. I do love the 2nd one more, but the first is a classic. The thing about the poop chair was hilarious. XD
  7. I agree with both your points @TheRedStranger & @WarTraveller. Frankly, leveling Chao takes a bit too long at times, and I would prefer if you got more from the stat gains from Animals and Chaos Drives. With there already being several Sonic Mobile games, it's crazy to see that SEGA hasn't made a Chao Garden Mobile game. That's how they should first bring it back, then follow it up with the Chao Garden returning in a new game (preferably an SA3). I'd keep the system much like how it was done in SA2B, but of course with several tweaks as mentioned above. I'd say have Intelligence as a visible stat this time around, that way in Races and Karate there are chances that they can take shortcuts or use special moves. I'd introduce a Chao Quiz game where they win if they pass a memory game of sorts. Maybe even include Team Chao Racing, that way it would encourage to raise multiple chao. Another would be to introduce an Personality System, similar to some Dragon Quest games where it would effect the percentage of stat gains, where some chao gain more in certain stats than others. Another factor is working with other Chao in Team Games, and how they react to the player. Another would be to overhall the animal system, where in under certain evolutions, they could look similar to an animal they gained traits from on a more permanent basis. So like Hero and Dark Chao, Animal Chao have visual cues to an animal they were given the most of. However, they gain further stat percentage advantages depending on what dominant animal they have an affinity to. Chao are basically Chimeras anyway, so play off on that. But I do think you should have a Chaos Drive or item that resets that affinity to 0 so people can still have Normal Neutral, Hero, and Dark Chao. Other factor I'd like to see is an Element System, an expansion of Attribute Type Chao. You'd have swim for water, fly for wind, run for ground, power for fire, and metal for intelligence. It would work much like the animal system above, but feature a major percentage gain for that Attribute. Of course that would also come with visual cues, but getting an Element Chao would be harder as the pick up for it should be quite rare. Normal Chao gain a major percentage gain for stamina to compensate. With all that above, Chao would look much more varied than ever before, and you could have character allusions with different types of chao. Like a Chao that looks like Blaze if it were a Neutral Fire Chao. Not to mention how different Chaos Chao could look, like a Dark Ground Chaos Type could look like Dark Gaia for example. Finally, have special Chao you can earn or get as DLC for much like the Tails Chao. Not only could you have an actual Sonic Chao, but also ones based on other SEGA games! Seriously, the possibilities are endless. Chao could literally print them money if they buckled down and just get it going. At least, that's how I'd do it.
  8. https://chao-island.com/ I'm bringing this topic back! The Chao website got a new site since then and now has some awesome downloads and mods you can use, beat it to cheap out the game (because whose got the hours to raise the perfect Chao for Emblems XP), to just expanding the fun you get from the PC ports! https://chao-island.com/viewer The 3D Chao Viewer (which you can download for easy use on anything) really got me thinking about these little Chimera Creatures again, because now you can see how they change and grow depending how you raise them. Or at least get the kind of Chao you want to raise (or mod in). Seriously, the different forms of the Hero Chao look weird, kinda like those odd looking Nightopians from Nights (probably intentional). But that brings me to a question that fits this topic. It's been so long since we've had a new Chao Garden, I just gotta ask. How would you bring back the Chao and Chao Garden? What changes and improvements would you bring?
  9. Okay look, I like burgers and all, but there ain't no way would I go to a McDonalds where "we all float". I don't need to see your bathroom, I've cleaned places far more frightening places then that! XP
  10. Blood Realm sounds like a cool metal band, this series is all another favorite and major interest of mine from Alterna next to Gods & Gears. They really don't make comic books like they used to, where you can be trippy and awesome. Or have a real grungy type of art style or theme. At least you won't see that over at Marvel or DC, can't speak for other main comic book publishers, but still.
  11. That title is relevant to Hollywood no matter what year or decade, until California becomes New Atlantis anyway. XP Don't think I've gotten to read Tinsel Town yet, but it sounds very interesting.
  12. Gods & Gears is probably my personal favorite out of all the Alterna Comics. It's got a really cool premise, and if Hammerella is anything to go by, a blossoming expanded universe. I'd recommend anyone who loved old space sci-fi fantasy and Jack Kirby comics to check them out.
  13. Rock Vox has given me some copies of Alterna comics, and it's exactly how I remember comic books used to be like. Rather than pandering to a very narrow audience that doesn't really buy comics in the first place. Indie Comics like this, Cyberfrog, Bigfoot Bill, Earthworm Jim (yes, the creator has been coming out with a few comics lately), and Alterna are the real future of comics. Who knows, maybe we'll see some of these in the small or big (digital, since the film industry is basically dead) screen in the future, you never know.
  14. I've read all of Archie Sonic years ago, and while Ian was overall one of the best and most consistent writer in the comic, that's not saying too much considering the oddities of the comic before he came along. While his Iron Dominion Arc (the one with Monkey Khan) I thought was a pretty good arc, that was one of the more divisive arcs back then. Ever since the Reboot, it's sad to say he's gone through this constant cycle where since then, his story arcs are overly too long and then end at an anti climatic break neck pace. That of course, also applies to IDW Sonic as a whole, despite it's decent length so far. At the very least, with a change in writing staff, I think that will only benefit the new comic. But that is more of a discussion for another topic. That's what made him a great mascot, because he had actual character. He wasn't any sort of Mickey Mouse or Mario, and while I like those characters...they aren't exactly characters per say. Can you guys tell me what exactly Mickey or Mario's character traits are? At least with Sonic, you had much more with him in his SoA backstory, though I would argue he had much more of a personality during the Adventure Games as well. Now I can see where there could be problems with your Mascot having actual character and maybe an arc, because that means growth and change. For many long running series, sometimes that means having a reboot every decade or so. But that's not always the case (Ratchet & Clank). Or you have different incarnations of the same character (Mega Man), honestly any of those solutions would be fine, but SEGA does not want to commit to any of those options aside from making Classic and Adventure/Modern separate, which makes no sense.
  15. They're Death Battles can be quite a mixed bag, and they obviously have their bias. In the first Mario vs Sonic fight, our blue blur won, yet he lost in the rematch for rather arbitrary reasons. There are matches that I do and don't agree with, but generally they are rather enjoyable. They've kinda built their own meme around Archie Sonic being extremely OP, which makes me think that Sonic will win this fight. Granted, the real question would be which force is more powerful overall, the Chaos Force or Speed Force? Because both heroes have their powers from those metaphysical planes. Still, it's not a matter if we Archie Sonic will win this, it's what they think about it if Archie Sonic can win. Because they built this sort of mythology around Archie Sonic being broken tier, I think they'll turn it toward Sonic's favor. Especially after the partial backlash regarding the Mario vs. Sonic Rematch. But then again, Wally West can do a lot of crazy things with his powers, but I'm Team Sonic all the way here. XP
  16. Hope you don't mind @Sorzo, but I updated topic. Mainly because of this: That's right, the entire production demo OST has been found for the OVA! This is completely stellar, check it out guys.
  17. Rotor has got to be the most difficult character for me to articulate about, because the only amount of screen time he ever got was during Season 1 of SatAM. From what I remember, apparently a producer over at NBC didn't like Rotor and that was why he took such a backseat during Season 2. This could only just be a rumor, but regardless after he got pushed to the background the character never recovered. His treatment in Archie Sonic was abysmal, his only plot point was Rotor trying to get his family back from Robotnik's mind control alongside his entire race (for some reason, they were never roboticized...for reasons never explained). Other than building or making stuff in the background with other smart characters (which was their fate, as all technology was the same apparently), he was given nothing in the possible future of XYL, then was replaced by a completely different character in the Reboot. He was Rotor in name only, with a played out trope of a bad father who preferred his son be a warrior instead of being a tech wiz. Which is funny because said bad dad ended up working for Eggman, while Rotor ended up being a Battle Mechanic as @TheRedStranger would put it. Someone that was at the frontlines, but still built stuff. Which was honestly even worse than the Nano Suit Rotor donned before the Reboot. Here's the dilemma, in the comics we either had Rotor so far pushed into the background that he almost became a non-character, until he put on an Iron Man-like suit. In the other case, they had him as a completely different character who fought on the front lines like an action hero...yet still can do everything he did before. While Rotor in Season 2 did do important background things, it was only just that...in the background, much like Archie Sonic. What people tend to forget is how his character actually was, during Season 1. Rotor had two episodes featuring him. The first being Harmonic Sonic, where he went up to the upper atmosphere with Sonic to take down a Spy Satellite. He used his wits to help Sonic not only take the whole thing down, but also make sure it didn't land on any habitable land to cause further damage on the planet. His name was even cheered alongside Sonic's! In the episode Sub-Sonic, he tagged along with Sonic, Sal, and Antoine to figure out an issue with polluted plant life. He even saved his friends and help figure out what was causing the problem. He brought working electricity to Knothole, and in other episodes during Season 1 tagged along on missions. While he did do a lot of background work, he still went out with his friends to bring down Robotnik. Our cool Walrus here even showed a bit of a temper in wanting to bring down Robotnik at the mere sight of him. He was actually a very proactive character! This is where I'm getting at here folks, Rotor can be a proactive character without just only staying in the background. He doesn't have to be an action hero, or even use a metal suit to be a hero, because Rotor is a Hero. Just like how Sonic's powers don't make him a Hero, it's what he does that defines him. I'm not saying Rotor should be a wimp, he is a character that can throw a fist, but he's not out to start a fight. However, being defensive doesn't mean just reacting either. He's a Main Freedom Fighter, just like Sally, Bunnie, and Antoine. Sadly, the comic writers and even the fans forgot about that. Rotor is the most shafted character in the entire series, he ends up in the background with other obscure characters like Porker Lewis, Sharps the Parakeet, Joe Sushi, and Tux. But that shouldn't be the case, he's one of the core Freedom Fighters and deserves a real shot in the limelight. With everything I listed above, he's got a lot of potential in terms of character growth, plot, and arcs. But it's up to us to show everyone what he really had to offer, because everyone else failed him. So if you have a series your working on that is based in Mobius, give him a second glance. Because you may just find out what kind of hero he really is. :)
  18. Honestly guys, really? I mean Pickle Sonic is great and all, but really. @TheRedStranger I can't believe you. You went on to make this topic...without mentioning the King of All Sonic Bootlegs! XD
  19. ...I'm not sure where I can exactly begin. Obviously I'm the one that started the topic, and I also have an extensive history in playing Sonic fan games since the Early 2000's. I never joined any sort of forums until the 2010's, but I always kept an eye on the Sonic fan community as a lurker. Of course there are all the good games stated in Antdude's video. Plus, I also started the SAGE topic to cover it's appearance every year. Needless to say, I love Sonic Fan Games. Sonic Before and After the Sequel, Sonic Time Twisted, any sort of 2D game before 2018 or so I've played. I have yet to play the Game Gear Remakes being developed by A+ Start's team or Overbound Games, but I highly await and hope for those games to be completed. I have yet to really dive into 3D fan games due to PC issues over the years and didn't have the horse power to play them yet. But I intend to soon... I played through 2.0 of SRB2 up above and even reviewed it! But since then the game has updated and I'd like to give it another shot. It is a good game and I highly recommend it, but that one can be quite difficult. Of course I also played Freedom Planet and Spark 1, both great games but Spark 1 I would say has the better game play, yet FP has the better story (it's not perfect, but much better than SEGA's recent outing with Sonic). Of course, these are all games that have come out in the last decade...I was playing fan games way before that. Back in the era of Ultimate Flash Sonic. Along with games even earlier then that! I have indeed played the 1st Sonic Robo Blast, and I will say before we get to the kind of games you seen now thanks to the Sonic Worlds Engine and such, previous fan games were a lot more simple in execution for the time. http://info.sonicretro.org/Omni_Khaos This game here, but mainly it's sequels known as Thirdscape, was a trip to play back in the day. Thirdscape and it's sequel (Part 2 really) really sparked my young imagination as a kid. With Sonic and Tails teaming up with a strange creature (and author avatar) against these eldrich monsters, an evil Echidna, and eldritch leader Omni Khaos. Pretty standard plot for a fanfic, but not a fan game! If you want to hunt the Thirdscape games yourself or check them out on youtube I'd say give it a look. But it has not aged well at all. Most fan games from the Late 90's to the Early 2000's ever do. SRB2 being an obvious exception of course. XP http://bluehog.adreos.com/main.php?page=news Most Klik n' Play Sonic Fan Games are quite quaint to say the least, and nowadays those that have been preserved are more of a time capsule to show just where we come from as a fandom. So props to those at Adreos for preserving their old Sonic Fan Games, known back then as Bluehog. To see such a site preserved in all it's original flavor is a real treat for the eyes. Also, gives me some nostalgia as I played all of these at least once. Another game I'd like to point out is Neo Sonic Godspeed, which I'm not linking due some strong language at the game's opening, but is much like other Klik Fan Games with a story that's a bit too ambitious. Also it's story is rather "edgy" in that Teenage sort of way with a fan character (Shadow's Sister) using an Evanesence song as her theme. It's definitely a game of it's time, but still enjoyable in a cheesy way. Also said fan character, in a massive coincidence, uses the same fur and eye color Blaze would use a year later when Sonic Rush came out. No kidding! XD http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog:_Time_Attacked The previous games I've linked don't really have Sonic gameplay, as in those you'd see in more recent fan games and the Genesis. Time Attacked (no relation to Time Twisted) is one of the first and earliest examples of traditional Sonic gameplay being made and done pretty well for the time it came out! It's plot is much like Back to the Future and Terminator, Robotnik is done with Sonic and uses a time machine to take him out. This leads Sonic to find Robotnik and destroy the Time Machine before he fades from existence and Robotnik rules the world. It's got animated cutscenes, custom bosses, levels, you name it! I'd highly recommend this, plus it's original sprite work is great. Also as a side note, destroying Badniks leads to robot parts shooting out at the screen much like Altered Beast in the Arcade. Really neat stuff! http://info.sonicretro.org/Retro_Sonic http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Nexus http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_XG http://info.sonicretro.org/Retro_Sonic_Nexus Now, if you can't tell from the title of some of these links, all but one (Sonic XG) use the same engine to run fan games that play just like the Classic Sonic Games. It began with Retro Sonic, which had it's engine used for Sonic Nexus, and then the three games were all merged to be Retro Sonic Nexus. However, all said projects were canned due to the dev of the Engine known as The Taxman's official project. That being the Android port of Sonic CD. I don't need to tell you that The Taxman is Christian Whitehead right? Yes, all these fan games led to the best Sonic CD, 1, and 2 ports we've ever had...and eventually lead up to the creation of Sonic Mania. This right here is why I love Sonic Fan Games so much, and why I consider Sonic Mania one of the best games in the series. Best of all, I was there when these demos first came out! So I got to literally watch history in the making! Sonic XG however, has continued development...sort of. It's creators came back in 2012 to work on it again, but vanished due to health issues and such. I hope the creators are doing well, as I'd consider Sonic XG my lost favorite fan game never completed. It's premise and presentation is what got to me, and stands out as one of the best things in fan games I've ever seen. This fan game had the guts to start off literally at a recap of The Doomsday Zone! This game is an alternate continuation of S3&K and it's awesome! Metal Sonic appears and takes the Master Emerald, while Fang breaks in the Hidden Palace to cause trouble. To top it all off, the Death Egg crashes right toward Angel Island and causes it to break apart as it explodes at the very end of the demo! Such imagination, creativity, and heart is what the Official SEGA teams that make Sonic games is what they need to inspire to. For all Sonic Fan Games of the Past and Present show just what was and could be possible if you get the right people in to just make a great Sonic game. We've seen the fruits of their labor in Sonic Mania, and I can honestly say this part of the fandom is part of the blood that keeps the heart pumping. I can go on and on, but I just wanted to share with you all some of my history with Sonic fan games, and I hope you guys share some more here as well.
  20. Really cool stuff dude, really like the concept for Wendy. Way better then that Troll stuff used in the Reboot. XP I don't have any bios for the Archie Cast, but I do have an interesting idea or two. Thing is, for a lot of Post-Reboot Characters, a lot don't need to be changed all that much. Background would be a bit different, but most could fit in very well in either. Clove and Cassia: Much of their background is similar, however I'd like to think that they would recently join the Legion after Clove either couldn't afford treatment for Cassia, or the current state of the world prevents her from getting help. Doesn't help that access to New Mobotropolis is all but neigh impossible due to shifty political reasons. For Eggman, I like to think he could build his own group of Counter Freedom Fighters, to be a team that could match our Heroes to a degree. Something like that, and Clove would be one of the first members. Shijin Warriors: They formed after Monkey Khan was mind controlled and killed the Dragon Kingdom FFers. Though it would be much more interesting for one or some of the members had relatives or friends that were lost, hence why they don't work with Monkey Khan. That's just one way of incorporating those characters in the previous canon, but there's a variety of possibilities on how to do so. I encourage anyone to think of ways to do so for stories they would like to tell.
  21. https://retroreadingtime.com/series/sonic-us/ Here we are again, once more let's all give a big thanks to Retro Reading Time, for they have preserved another series of Obscure Sonic Books. This time from Troll Publications...who I have no idea what else they did. More importantly, they did a series of Books in the US for Sonic, all of which loosely based on Archie Sonic to an extent. But, all of it based around Mobius, Sally, and the Freedom Fighters. I believe one of them even have a book about Bunnie. But don't take my word for it, you can download them on this site right now and check them out! Enjoy and discuss this once lost piece of Sonic Media.
  22. Watched a bunch of Scooby Doo back in the day. Zombie Island was the best cartoons in it's series, followed by Mystery Inc. After they stopped making the Straight to Video Movies about real super natural threats, the rest of that series wasn't really worth it. I'm not gonna watch a Scooby Movie for nearly 2 hours just for it to be a guy in a suit. Seen a few of the other cartoons from Hanna Barbara, like Yogi, Pink Panther, and the like. Funny enough, the Scooby rip offs like Jabber Jaw and Dune Buggy always stuck out to me. It may just be me, but I really dig them as a kid. They really should have taken that Jabber Jaw 90's music video and turned it into a series. XP Now, I'm not my parents age being a 90's kid, but I saw all of these due to Cartoon Network before the Advent of What-A-Cartoon. Not to mention Boomerang later on. Lastly, Wacky Racers, an Ur Example of the Massive Crossover in the form of Kart Racing before Mario made it into a popular genre of games. Also, can I talk about Swat Kats here? Cause I think that's a part of this line of Cartoons.
  23. https://retroreadingtime.com/series/sonic-uk/ I found the Sonic books published by Virgin, and created by three authors under the pseudonym Martin Adams. I remember talking to the site owner some years ago, and I'm glad to see that every Martin Adams book is now available online and archived. I can delve more into what these books have, but I also have to check them out personally as well.
  24. https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Treasure_Tails So recently, Craig Stitt (artist for Sonic 2 and Sonic Spinball, who also worked on the Spyro and Ratchet & Clank games) has recently been revealing several different beta and concept content for all the works he's done over the years. Including this recent discovery that even he forgot about. It's a pitch for a puzzle platform game known as Treasure Tails! For the record, this is way before Tails Adventure was ever a thing, but appears that only these presumably mock ups are the only evidence of the game that we know of. It's quite amazing to see this being discovered after all these years! And there's more... SEGApede, also known as Astropede, is a game that you think doesn't have anything to do with Sonic. But according to Craig Stitt, was originally meant to take place within the Sonic Universe! This game, had it gone past the demo phase, could have possibly (but probably not, knowing SEGA) a part of Sonic as an indirect side entry! There's even some art assets used from Toxic Caves (Sonic Spinball) and Sonic 2's Hidden Palace Zone in one demo! There's not design document released for it...YET. Mainly because Stitt isn't sure if he's gonna charge for it to be viewed or not from what I can gather. Either way, from the blurred text that I can make out, "The Death of Dr. Robotnik?" peaks great interest in me for obvious reasons. Also from what I can make out is that the Centipede character here, Zip, is created by Robotnik. Should that design document come out and is for free, I'll be sure to link it here or where it can be purchased, I can't imagine a PDF of it would be that expensive to get if he puts it up online like that somehow. If I get anything new I'll let you all know.
